Further Description
  • People who have recently come to live in the village and possibly even those who have been here some time, when seeing the group of bungalows near the Church Centre, may have wondered who lived there and how they came to be there. Some thirty years ago, under the initiative of the then Vicar, David Ross, a need for sheltered housing was identified and the Claverdon Benefice Housing Association was born. As a result, fourteen bungalows were built, together with a Warden?s flat. The object of the Association is to provide accommodation for the elderly of Claverdon and its adjoining parishes, who are in need and to give relief to parishioners of Claverdon whose elderly parents or other dependants and close relatives, living at a distance, are similarly in need.It is emphasized that the bungalows are designed for independent living, with help where necessary from relatives or friends. The Warden is there to give a ?good neighbour? service. If you think that you or your parents may fall into one of these categories, now or in the future, you can get more information or make application for a vacancy from the Secretary of the Association, David Hardy, at Half Acre Cottage, Church Road, telephone No. 832351 or go and have a chat with the Warden, Rita Hanks.
