Further Description
  • Jazz Club 90 Twice weekly sessions are held at the Harp Hotel, Albrighton, Shropshire on Tuesday, 8.30-11pm and Sunday, 1-3pm. The mainly traditional jazz sessions are free admission, we hope you will take part in the raffle and football card to help our funds. The Harp is a small pub in Albrighton and we have built a reputation as one of the favourite venues for jazz fans and musicians alike. Bands are booked from as far afield as Sweden, California and Australia as well as Cornwall to County Durham and all stops in between!A word of thanks to all our regular bands, who do a brilliant job of helping us to keep Jazz Club 90 alive and kicking at the Harp. Recent superb sessions have featured some of the finest young jazz musicians in the country. Singer Rachael Pennell, blues piano from Daniel Smith, the individual stars of Bourbon Kick, (Jonny Boston on tenor sax, James Evans on clarinet, Graham Hughes on trombone and leader T.J.Johnson on drums) have all reinforced our belief that ?traditional? jazz does have a safe, albeit maybe a slightly different future in the hands of these talented younger musicians. Add to these gigs the slightly more experienced Antique Six, the delightful Denise Lawrence and all the other bands from far and wide, including Mart Rodger Manchester Jazz, Gambit Jazzmen and the brilliant Sarah Spencer and Friends, and it all adds up to great jazz in a great atmosphere. Jazz violinist Ralph Allin brought in his quartet and amazed the audience with his brilliant interpretation of jazz and standard numbers. They came back in August for an even better session! The regulars who set out for their expedition to the Isle of Bute Jazz Festival returned safely full of praise for the festival but not too happy with the rain, not ideal weather for camping! Our fund raising dance on Friday, June 6th. at Shifnal War Memorial Hall was a great success and a most enjoyable evening was had by all?..and we put 284.00 on the kitty! We are just off Junction 3 of the M54 and would love to see you.John Howell 01902 756158
