  • Last year, Walsall Samaritans answered over 16,000 calls to its helpline, and is looking to boost its volunteer numbers to ensure that phone lines are always available when needed to support anyone who is in distress or at risk of suicide. We are holding Information Events for people interested in our emotional support work at 7.30 pm on Thursday 1st July and Monday 2nd August.     Listening volunteers are needed during the day and especially at night.
    To join Samaritans as a Listening Volunteer, people need to be able to commit to a weekly duty of around 3 hours a week. Late night, the small hours and evenings are the times when the service is at its busiest. Willingness to work some "unsocial hours" is important. As well as the people who offer support by phone, email, or face to face, there are volunteers behind the scenes, helping the branch to run smoothly and playing a key role in keeping this vital service open through their involvement with tasks such as publicity and fund-raising.
