Get Well and Speedy Recovery.
I understand Vanessa and Lucinda have recently undergone operations. We wish them well and a speedy recovery.
Road Closure.
Drakestone Lane (Lindsey – Semer) will be closed to traffic on 3rd and 4th March in order that Anglian Water can repair a burst watermain. Drakestone Lane is the lane that runs down by Rose Cottage just past the Red Rose.
Out of Hours Medical Treatment.
There can be very few people who are unaware of the tragic case of the death of Mr David Grey receiving a fatal dose of pain killers from Dr Daniel Ubani who had flown in from Germany to provide cover for out of hours cover for Take Care Now who have the contract for most of East Anglia. So much has been written about this case I won’t bore you with my views.
However, for those of us who are registered with the Bildeston Health Centre enjoy the benefit of out of hours cover from a doctor from the local practice and not a locum from an out of hours service. When the out of hours service was set up in 2004 the Bildeston doctors, to their credit, opted out of the new scheme believing that is what the patient wants. In opting out the doctors are not paid for providing this service. I am quite sure everyone registered with the practice applaud them for their decision to opt out.
I am sure most of us are traditionalists, perhaps even old-fashioned, on our outlook on life, the fact that we are a real person and not just number matters to us. It matters to us that we can access a doctor when we need one, and more importantly, if we need a doctor in the middle of the night they know where you live. It’s one thing to find a house in a town with a comprehensive street map even if you are a stranger to the town, but quite another to find a house in a rural location. If you think a satellite navigation system will solve your problem – think again, even experienced parcel delivery drivers have difficulty finding the right address in daylight, so you can only imagine how a locum doctor will get on a dark winters night. Did anybody in government stop to ask what the patient wanted?
Pylon Latest.
As part of the consultation process local Parish Councils are invited to comment on the proposed routes, here is the response from Lindsey Parish Council:
Dear Sirs,
National Grid: Bramford – Twinstead 400KV Overhead Line, Project, Suffolk.
Please register this letter as a formal objection from Lindsey Parish Council for your proposals for the Overhead Line Project with particular reference to Corridor/Route 4.
The proposal for Corridor 4, if implemented, would have a highly visual negative impact on the area in general by passing over unspoilt countryside of South Suffolk, which has remained unchanged for centuries, thereby despoiling it forever.
The Parish Council wishes to further to record its strong objection to Route Corridor Option 4 on the following grounds:
• Detrimental impact on sites of Specific Scientific Interest which includes Milden and Edwardstone Woods along with 16 other small ancient woodlands.
• Detrimental impact on 11 Scheduled Monuments within 2 kilometres of the
• Route.
• Detrimental impact on 4 Conservation Areas within 1 kilometre of the route.
• Significant impact on the historic setting of 24 listed buildings within the Parish of Lindsey.
• Detrimental impact on the topography of the area given that the route will follow some of the highest plateaus in Suffolk.
• An adverse impact on the local economy, which is heavily reliant on tourism.
• Significant perceived health risk associated with living within a given meterage of high voltage power lines.
The Parish Council is also aware that the proposals for Route Corridor 4, by passing close to, and at times crossing areas designated Spe
