Further Description
  • Community Service.

Over forty people turned up for the Community Service on Sunday 21st August to celebrate our efforts to improve our community. To celebrate the new churchyard fence and it was fitting that the organ was played by Peter Bumpstead, the organ restorer who restored our 1801 Hugh Russell organ some years back, the cost of restoration was funded by the Friends of Lindsey Church as indeed was the cost of the new fence.

Another fence had been erected inside the Church barring the way to the alter with eight palings labeled, Hatred, Lies, Greed, Hypocrisy, Jealousy, Dishonesty, Pride and Condemnation all of which had to be banished in order to reach the alter.
After each reading which referred to the subject requiring banishment, a child from the congregation removed the relevant paling which was removed to the back of the church. Finian Moore, Molly Miller, Lauren, Adam, Ted and Luke Sargeant, Oliver and Harriet Terndrup and Archie Wood all had a hand in paling removal.
The Minister took the collection plate to the alter, now free from obstruction, read a passage from Corinthians concerning Love.

The congregation assembled by the churchyard fence where the fence was blessed and Lauren Sargeant had the honor of cutting the ribbon.
A glass of Pimm’s sealed a most memorable and uplifting service.
