Further Description
Skyline Skydives For Cystic Fibrosis
Location: Nationwide
Date: Anytime
Fancy a leap of faith at 10,000 feet? You can participate in a skydive at one of the 20 drop zones in the UK on a date of your choice through Skyline Professional Event Organisers.
Minimum sponsorship for a tandem skydive via Skyline is £395 and in return you can take part for free! Skyline also offer static-line parachute jumps and accelerated freefall courses, details of which are in the information pack we can send you. If you raise over £550 you'll receive a £150 Travel Voucher.
What does tandem skydiving involve?
It is a Skydive because you will be freefalling through the air (without the parachute deployed) for several thousand feet; it is in Tandem because you will be harnessed to a professional parachute instructor at all times throughout the descent. This is the only way you can jump from such an altitude without spending thousands of pounds becoming a freefall parachutist. This is literally the chance of a lifetime.
What's it like?
We thought we'd leave this description to an expert. Pankaj Raikundalia completed his first tandem skydive at Sibson Airfield in September 2010:-
"Words fail to do justice to the adrenalin rush and the electrifying experience that blasts through your body when you step into the clouds, head first I might add, out of a plane which is soaring at 120+mph and at least a lofty 10,000+ feet; you plummet into thin air initially at 200 mph and almost instantly the pilot chute opens slowing your descent to only 120mph. In less than a minute you feel a sudden jolt and the main chute has opened and you think PHEW! You at first don't realise that you've freefallen around 5,000+ feet in a matter of seconds! The pace is then somewhat more sedate and gentle, almost serene.
"It is the most over-whelming experience ever. Plunging in the air, free-falling, your hands and legs waving and flapping in all directions; yoga lovers would be amazed as to the "shapes" the body can manage when freefalling! I had thought of this moment over and over again - what sensations would I feel and what would I be thinking? I can honestly say, my life did not flash before me as many had predicted - it was just a feeling of utter exhilaration."
