Further Description
  • Joke of the Month.
During these recessionary times why don’t you in true Blue Peter style get your children/grandchildren to make their own crackers! Here are several one – line jokes suitable for crackers.

What’s the most popular Christmas wine? I don’t like Brussels Sprouts.
What do you call a dog that makes a bolt for the door? A Blacksmith.
What do you get if you cross a dog with a lion? A terrified Postman.
What do you call someone who dances on cars? A Morris Dancer.
What does Santa do with fat elves? He sends them to an elf farm.
What happened when the dog went to the flea circus? He stole the Show.

    From the Rectory.
Christmas this year at St Peter’s, Lindsey brings two “firsts”. We will be having our usual Carol Service with children placing the figures into the Crib on 18th December at 6.30pm, but this year we have a special treat as choral singers Serendipity will be taking their places in the choir stalls to lead us in our carols and to perform some solo Christmas “specials”. A first for Lindsey! Secondly, instead of having a communion service on Christmas Day, we will be having for the first time a Candlelit Midnight Mass that begins at 11.30pm.Patrick Friend will be playing the organ at both of these services and I am very much looking forward to being with the people of Lindsey for this special time. It is quite usual to come to a service such as this even if you are not confirmed, some to take communion and others to be blessed. I hope that people of all ages will come along and take a quiet hour out before the festivities and excitement begin on Christmas Day.

Not long ago I was invited to go to Kersey Church where Kersey school, a school that many of our benefice children attend were having a communion service. It was a lovely service with the children leading the prayers and a drama played out of “stilling the storm”. Parents, villagers and governors, including Lindsey governor Frances Moore were there too. The church was packed. Only a few people received communion but everyone came up for a blessing – this was my job, which I much enjoyed.

As a child, Midnight Mass used to be my favorite service. I suppose there was a thrill in staying up so late but even when I look back I can remember a wonderful feeling of warmth and anticipation and the feeling of God’s presence. I look forward to wishing everyone a very happy Christmas in our lovely parish Church at 11.30pm for the first time.
