    Happy New Year

    Thank You.
I wasn’t looking for sympathy when I wrote about my efforts with a bad back; in fact I have always thought that people suffering with a bad back were “swinging the lead”. Oh how wrong I’ve been – another of my theories shot down in flames! So many of you have offered to help, and so many cards coming through the letter box wishing me well I feel quite embarrassed. Thank you all so much.

    Congratulations and Well Done.
Congratulations to Sara Terndrup on becoming a governor of Kersey School. Well done on the Autumn Bags 2 School collection of unwanted clothes which raised £510 for School Funds.

    A message from Geoff Cordell.
Due to overseas posting, a small, well decorated house with large and rather wonderful garden close to Lindsey is available to rent to single person or couple. Available early 2012, a competitive rent is offered in exchange for maintaining the garden. For more information, please call Geoff on 07722755661 or email him on geoffreycordell@hotmail.com

Now the nights are getting longer and the temperature is dropping, I feel it would be appropriate to give some road safety advice. A safe journey starts in the preparation the night before. Check the weather forecast, if it’s going to be cold, put a protective sheet over the windscreen (available from most good vehicle accessory shops) or get up 15 minutes earlier to allow enough time to fully defrost your car before you set off. Please don’t pour hot water on your windscreen. Although the windscreen companies will love all the extra business from the shattered windscreen, I’m sure you can think of better ways of spending your time and hard earned money.
One mistake that many drivers make when it snows, is to only clear the snow from the windows of their vehicles. It is important to clear the snow from the bonnet and the roof of your car. The reason for this is that whilst you are driving along, the snow on your bonnet will be blown up onto your windscreen, instantly obscuring your vision and potentially leading to you having an accident. Likewise, the snow on the roof of your car will be blown off onto the windscreen of the vehicle following you, causing exactly the same result to their windscreen. Do you really want to be responsible for causing an accident?
Think carefully if your journey is really necessary. If it is, allow a greater stopping distance between you and the car in front especially on wet or icy roads. Generally there is a 2 second rule on normal dry roads, you should at least double this on wet or icy roads.
Hopefully you find these tips useful and will help you have a safe and enjoyable festive period with your friends and loved ones. If you would like any detailed advice on road safety or crime prevention, please contact your local safer neighbourhood team on either our new telephone number of 101 or email us at

    Joke of The Month.
The phone at the reception desk starts ringing at three in the morning. The desk clerk answers it. It’s a call from a drunk asking what time the bar opens. “The bar opens at noon” replies the clerk. An hour later the same man calls again asking for the time of the bar opening., same time as before – noon. “ Another hour passes and the drunk calls again wanting to know the opening time of the bar. “Look sir, if you want a drink I will get room service for you. “I don’t want to get in, “I just want to get out!”
