Further Description
  • The Railway Tavern, Mellis is a victorian freehouse situated at the centre of the village of Mellis. The village of Mellis sits on and around the largest common in Suffolk. The Tavern is a friendly, country pub serving excellent home cooked food and a good selection of real ales, guest ales changing weekly. There are three comfortable letting rooms, double and twin available, each booking includes a full English breakfast. There is monthly entertainment and also theme evenings including the very popular tapas night with authentic tapas and classical, flamenco music. There are also, two function rooms, one fully functional and the second almost refurbished. Landlord Bob and landlady Pam are very accomodating and are more than willing to adapt to any special requests. All in all this is a special village pub tucked away in the lovely Suffolk countryside where you can eat good, fresh food or just drink in comfortable surroundings with good company or alternatively stay over in one of the lovely letting rooms.Landlord Bob and landlady Pam moved into the Railway Tavern in April 2008. Bob is from Essex and is a qualified chef and Pam is originally from Cheshire but spent most of her adult life in Spain, they have introduced an interesting and varied menu to the Railway Tavern which has proved popular with everyone. The food is good home cooking with a twist, the prices are very reasonable and is increasingly popular. There is plenty of real ale, Adnams bitter and Greene King IPA are permanently available and there is always a good array of guest ales to choose from both local breweries and from further a field and for the non-ale drinkers there is an interesting wine list with wines from many countries and of course lagers and many other drinks. There is monthly entertainment which varies greatly from the very popular Spanish night including tapas and authentic flamenco guitarist to tribute and cabaret artists. Details of forthcoming events will be published on this site and also photos after the event. There are three lovely, comfortable letting rooms, twin and double are available, the price includes one of Bob ’s famous "full English breakfast".All in all the Railway Tavern is a very comfortable place to visit, have a meal, sample the ales and wines, have coffee, stay over or just to stop by while enjoying the flora and fauna of the Mellis Common.
