  • My first memory is of riding on top of a removal cart, doing a moonlight flit when I was about 3.  Our destination was 80 Moffat street in St Annes in Nottingham. We were scruffy, poverty stricken and loud, not the sort of people you wanted living next door to you. Every living thing, from the pigeons on the roof to our peace loving new neighbours, were about to find out why our dad called us 'the brass band' and we were to bring new life to that terrace, most of it rolled up in the bedding on top of the cart. The streets were steep, the living poor. I have written an account of life then. Called "YO'D MEK A PARSON SWEAR!" the book will be avalable shortly from my website www.joyjamesnottingham.co.uk It will take you on a journey through the streets as they once were, to a grinding poverty and to the many people who helped colour my otherwise drab world.
