With only 18 days to go until she becomes a Princess, Catherine Middleton, as she now wants to be known, cannot be blamed for showing slight nerves. On a visit to Lancashire in the rain yesterday, when asked if she was nervous, she replied, ‘Yes, of course I am.’
In this, the couple’s last pre-wedding appearance, they presented an incredibly united front. William addressed a group of teenagers, acknowledging that he knew he was ‘very fortunate’ in having the support of his family, friends and of course adding, ‘I have Catherine’. He also said that he knows ‘these things can never be taken for granted’. This small sentence shows the evolution of the Royal Family in its attitude towards others. They seem to have made an active effort to welcome Kate Middleton and to take great pains to protect her.
Kate shook many different hands, started a 100m race and endeared herself to the people of Lancaster. They described her as tactile, delightful and as someone who ‘made the effort’.
Kate seems to be shocked by the speed at which the wedding is now approaching, but as someone who will transform in one hour on 29 April from ordinary Kate Middleton to Princess Catherine of Wales, who can blame her?
