I know my family were born in the Bookhams as far back as 1650 the family name being Lee.My greatgreat grandfather was Charles Lee married to Jane Grayland and he worked at Downside as a farm labourer all his life.I would like to look in parish records to see if I can get further back than 1650-any tips please? Would the church hold these and would there still be gravestones.I am coming down on October 8th to see where my ancestors come from. Sincerely Wendy Sargeant

Hello I am research the family tree of Hooker - William (1781-1846) his wife Ann (1786-1848) lived in Capel and are buried at St John the Baptist Church Capel. They had two sons John (1817-1893) and James (1828-1866). John married a Mary Goodchild and James married Louisa Beedle. They all lived around the Dorking area. Does anyone have any information.   I was at Moleside between 1971 to 1975 and remember Pamela and John Hoskison well. I also remember being friendly with a lad called (Tom?)Kidman from Australia. Is this you or a relative?
  
  I remember him particularly well because we looked fairly similar (roundish faces and straight dark hair)and we thought we might be related due to the similarlty of our surnames - imagining Cadman being turned into Kidman by an Australian immigration officer! I remember we both also had two of the worst voices in school and had to stand at the back and mime at the Christmas carol concert at the local church.

I have some information of the family, particularly a branch which lead to William Shallcrass born 1799 (Married Eliza Davis) to Robert Shallcrass born 1819 who emmigrated and eventually arrived in New Zealand and lived a distinguished career as a Police Superintendant. My Nan Flo (Florence Frances) Anderson - nee Boult - was born in Abinger but at the end lived at Council Cottages Betchworth with Percy Arnold who had a son called Bunnie. This was during the war. Looking for information about Bray family who lived in Chipstead from approx 1830 onwards. David and Jane Bray had 9 children. David Bray was a wheelwright and Jane Bray worked as Post Mistress at the Post Office for about 10 years (1871-1881).
