Catherine Oxley
Oxley, West Midlands (2.2 miles away)
Hello,
I'm looking for any information on the Oxley family originally from the Oxley, Wolverhampton, West Midlands and Staffordshire area during the 1600s to the 1700s (or earlier) before they came to America. Henry Oxley; born 4 May 1699 at Morlidge, Derbyshire, England, United Kingdom is a direct ancestor, but his family was from the Oxley, Wolverhampton area. Any history would be very much appreciated.
Thank you.
Cat Oxley

Hi Alan
I am now living in Canada but as a boy I worked at the corner store in Shelfield as a paper boy. The store was owened by Les Rollinson and run by Brian (pasha) Downes. I beleive Brian is still running the store if not he lives just up the road in High Heath, Brian would now be about 63. The store is on the corner of Lichfield road and Mill road on the opposite corner to the Spring Cottage Pub. I hope this works for you, if it does say Hi to Brian from me, Brian Edwards, Vancouver Canada

i went to whitgreave primary school in featherstone~during the latter part of the 1960~s up until about 1972~ when i left to start wolgarston school in penkridge whitgeave wasnt a bad old school in those days. i can still remember a few of the old teachers there. mrs grundy~mr jones he was a right old battleaxe~ enough said about school i still have the opportunity to go back to the village as i still have some friends and relatives living there but i would just like to say that these days it is so sad~to go back and see how changed its become there are so many new faces you dont know who half of them are anymore~ its all down to the building of the new estate.half of them who live down there stick their noses in the air at the real people of the old village and yet they couldnt tell you anything about the history of the village in yars gone by.**they only know~what they know now by reading through bloody books they have picked up~i bet they dont remember the farm being at the bottom of what is now called brookhouse lane~and also the old hilton main club which the council demolished secretly in the middle of the night~another dirty trick on their behalf and what the hell for? just so as they could sell it off to build a few rotten factories.**a lot of people on the old featherstone village missed that place~especially the older folks it was the only place they had to go really and really enjoy themselves~what the country7western nights and sunday nights when they used to have a good group on and a game of bingo.**now all thats gone theres no where except the red white and blue public house~ its such a shame to see quaint old villages end like this.and by the way i was born on the village in 1962.

Hi.. Can anyone help me ?. I used to live with my Aunty in Rookery Road~ Lanesfield. My Grandfather lived in (what was then called Rookery Hall~ Spring Rd)~ now called~ I believe the 44 Club. I have been trying for years to obtain copies of old family photographs which were still on the walls of the club~ but my many letters go unanswered :-(. I would be MOST grateful if anyone can obtain them for me I WILL PAY FOR THE COSTS. **Also if anyone has memories of the BATES family there or at Rookery Farm that was I would be pleased to hear.**Many thanks****Peter Bates
