I lived at Distillery Cottages~ Garnkirk until about 1954/55 when we had to move to Moodiesburn. **Attended Chryston Primary School~ then Gartcosh Primary~ then finally to Coatbridge High. I remember the long walk from Distillery Cottages to Muirhead to Mrs. Bentleys local store and oftentimes going to Woodhead Farm for that extra pint of milk! **Would be happy to talk to anyone who lived in the area.**Joanne

Greetings from Canada: I am researching my ancestors who lived in Rowantreefauld~ Lennoxtown in 1895 and 1896 but perhaps longer. Hugh McFadyen born about 1870 married Annie McIvor on Feb 2~ 1892 in Saint Johnston~ Donegal near Londonderry~ Ireland. ****A son~ Charles was born to them on May 21~ 1895 in Rowantreefauld~ Lennoxtown~ registrar Malcolm Baird. Hugh McFadyen died on Dec 13~ 1896 age 26 years~ in Rowantreefauld~ Registrar M. Baird. His parents were Charles McFadyen occupation-carter~ deceased and Rebecca Fleming~ deceased. ****I would very much appreciate any information or suggestions anyone may have to help me find these ancestors.****Sincerely~ Helen Wyse****

Hi Robyn I was born in Garnkirk and the cottages were all pulled down in the mid 1950s. There are still house's there they were known to me as the excise houses, think there were 6 of them they are now all sited on private land.Sorry I haven't heard of your Italian sculptor even though my mother and my grand mother were born and raised in Garnkirk

My ancestors..... surnames: BOULES~ LOCKE~ BOYCE and BOYLE lived in Lanarkshire in the 1800's and 1900's. Many lived in Shotts and Calderhead~ Scotland. Most of them were born in IRELAND. I am searching for the specific areas in Ireland where some of them may have been born. All documents I've retrieved~ state Ireland~ ONLY as places of birth.**Perhps someone may have knowledge regarding some of these people or could direct me in further research.****Appreciatively~**Christine Boules****

My great grandfather~ Thomas McFarlane~ was born in Campsie in that same year.

I know it is a long shot~ but I am trying to find any information or any **descendants of Harry Black. Harry lived in the Stepps area~ **probably in the 1940s~ when he would have been in his 20s or 30s. I believe he **was a soldier in a Scottish Regiment~ although I do not know which regiment. I **think his wife was called Jenny and they may have had a son~ **also called Harry~ born sometime between 1945 and 1955. **I know it is not much to go on~ but any information or suggestions would be **much appreciated.**Many thanks for taking the time to read this. **Brenda Lang-Pascoe
