Between 1946 - 1966 there was an estate of prefabricated houses on the junction of Elmbridge Road and Forest Road in Hainault, Essex (near Chigwell and close to Ilford, Greater London). These were temporary houses that were built while the more permanent, and still standing, Hainault Estate was constructed.

The prefabs, and the roads they were constructed on, no longer exist but my mum remembers them fondly. Did you, or anyone you know, live in one of these prefabs? I am currently researching this long gone estate and would love to hear from anyone who remembers them or who used to live there.

• Hi Karen I lived in Hardwick Gardens on the prefab estate from approx 1946 till we were rehoused in Ilford when I was 12 in 1957. I also remember the prefabs fondly and do have pictures of people who were also living there - not specifically of the prefabs though. We had a street party for the Queen`s Coronation, and I have a photo of all us children in fancy dress. Both my parents, Roy and Gwen Landgraf, and well as my brother Brian have now passed on, but am still in touch with Brenda Morgan who lived in Hardwick Gardens, and Denise West who lived on the estate as well. Would love to hear from others who lived there, and am willing to post the photographs if anyone is interested.

• I used to live at 1 Hedingham Gardens, pretty sure I was actually born at home there.We were one of the last families to move out in 1969, I'm sure about the year because it was my last year at John Branston Junior School and I had to travel to school from my (then) new address in Barkingside on the 150 bus.Unforntunately I do not have any pictures, I've been trawling the internet and various books for years but couldn't find anything, was really happy to see your picture of the estate. I lived at 8~ Harden St~ Woolwich~ between 1946 and 1953 and would love to have any copies of photographs of the street and surrounding areas. Harden St ran alongside the railway between Sand St and Woodhill. sadly the area was redeveloped in the early 60s and the Morris Walk estate was built.**Unfortunately any photographs of our street disappeared when family members passed away

I lived for quite along time at Ilchester Rd~ and went to St Erkenwald School~ until going into the RAF in 1946. After serving for 6 years I transferred to the RNZAF as a Physical Fitness Instructor in New Zealand. I am now married and have two grown up children. Re: Clara Ann Hughes (nee Rick) died 27 May 1903****The abovenamed lived at 13 Lancaster Road~ Forest Gate. She was a Roman **Catholic and looking at an old map of Forest Gate I see she lived opposite St. **Anthony's Roman Catholic Church. I am wondering if the Church is still in use **and is there a Cemetry there or which is the nearest Cemetry to this Church~ **also if the Burial registers are still with the Church or have they been **deposited with the local Archives. I should also be grateful if anyone could **advise me what the local paper was in 1903 and if there is anywhere I could **view a copy for this date. Clara husband was Thomas Hughes and they had two **daughters Emily and Elizabeth. Emily and Elizabeth stayed with the Bearman's **at 186 Boleign Road after their home was sold until they left for India in **December 1903. Sincerely Shirley Berry
