My grandparents~Albert and Sarah Owen ~ and my grt grandparents John Bennett and Francess Bennett ran the old post office and provisions store in mid/late 1800~s{ its now the Beehive store.Some of the family also worked across the road at the Car and Lion pub. Does anyone have any old photos of Stretton villiage or any interesting stories/history about inhabitants before 1900? I have gone back quite a way with my family tree but hope to find more local stories to add to it.

I'm trying to find out more about my great grandfather's sister~ Catherine Bowyer nee Gore who settled with her husband Joseph in Barnton after their marriage in Wigan in 1887. Catherine worked with her husband (who also worked as a chemical labourer and stationery engine driver) in a pub/beersellers on Runcorn Road. Other homes were in Weaver View and Nursery Road. Catherine & Joseph had five children of whom only two survived infancy. These were James~ b 1890 and Teresa~ b 1895. The latter married William Coombes (b Barnton 1890## living Oakwood Lane~ Barnton~ in 1911) in 1922 and died in the Crewe area in 1973. James was still living in 1911 and at home with his parents and sister## he may have married Katie Gerrard or Maud Robinson. I think Catherine may have died in 1926 in the Banrton area## I don't know where she is buried (likewise her other family members). Are there any descendants of this family who would be interested in links with the family elsewhere? I have a lot of information on branches in Lancashire~ Berkshire and elsewhere~ and would love to know what happened to Catherine & Joseph's family after 1911. Please contact me if you have inforamtion or would like to know more.

Further to my early entry on the Hankeys of Daresbury I have managed to unearth a little more information. My grandfather Edward was~ infact~ one of six children~ four sisters - Sarah Elizabeth b1880~ Alice b1883~ Ellen Mercy b1890 and Annie b1894****His only brother~ William was born in 1878****Their father Edward was one of 10 children of William Hankey b1816 Daresbury and Elizabeth~ nee Wild b1818 in Horton.****Their children are listed as~ Samuel b1842~ William b1844~ Peter b1846~ Sarah Elizabeth b1848~ James b1851~ Thomas b1853~ and Edward b1855 all born in Daresbury.****Alfred b1858~ John b1861 and Harry b1863 were all born in Warrington.****Any information on these people would be greatly appreciated. My great grandmother's maiden name was Antrobus. Hre full name was Margaret Helen Antrobus and she died in Blackpool in the 40s or 50s. There are still some family members living in south Manchester I understand. I am trying to find out what happened to her nephews/neices and possibly sister all of whom emmigrated to Canada in the late 19th C. Would be very grateful for any information.
