I like so many are on a quest to find out where my roots are.My Grandfather George Lewis hailed from Ensdon~ or so i believe. He passed away in 1965~ my Uncle Ken and his wife took up the quest years ago but the trail went cold. They discovered that Mill house in Ensdon was occupied by Lewis's at one time.I have today visited cemetries at Montford and Sherwidine to see if i can track my ansestors.Any help would be much appreciated.I now live in Shopshire and in some corny way it is like coming home.Any help would be appreciated.

Hello. I am reading a book called"No Time to Wave Goodbye" by Ben Wicks~ The book is about evacuees during the 2nd world war. My brother David and I where billeted in the village of Cockshutt~ I was very young at the time~ my brother was older~ I was four~ my brother was eight~ I am not to sure of the ages because I don't know the date that we arrived at your village~ September 1939 I believe. We lived just out side of the village in a row of house's on the left hand side as we walked from the village. I remember sitting in a hall~ maybe a parish hall or a school hall as people picked the child that they would take into there home~ My brother was chosen to live with a family called I think" Paddy or Pardy~ they lived in the second house of the row~ and because I started to cry when my brother was taken from me that I was billeted in the house next door~ the first house~ I think their name was Smith I am not sure if that was their name. I have memories of a community rabbit hunt as the local corn field was being mowed~ the mower started at the out side~ mowing around in a circle driving the rabbits into an ever small circle untill thay paniced and charged out making a run for it!~ the field was surrounded with people armed with clubs~ a hay wagon was full of dead rabbits. I also remember that German p.o.ws where imprisoned nearby~ my brother and I would see them parade by ~ I presume to work on agriculture~ We had no fear of them but fellt sorry for them. It was in many respects a good time for us coming from dreary Mearsyside and being out in the country and fresh air. We did feel like strangers in a strange land away from all we new and our parents. I don't know how long we lived there or much details. If you know of any information that I could pass on to my children and grand children would be great. I am now 72 in good health~ I have lived in Canada since 1953. I have had a good life and offten think back to those times when our lives where turned up side down~ and cared for by the kind people in Cockshutt. Thanks Paul Roddick

I am tracing the Hampson family (my wife's maiden name) who lived in the Cockshutt area from around 1800, and the name Wynn has cropped up several times. I will search my records and come back to you.
