Edit My Entry
I am doing some family research and looking for assistance.
I would think anyone with the last names of Thomas or Griggs living in the East Winch, Gaton, Lynn area are part of my family tree, and I would appreciate contact from you.
My Grandmother was Dorcas Sophia Thomas Born in Norfolk 1887/87 Died 1937/38.
My Great Grand Parents were Charles Thomas, Gardner, born 1838 at Westacre, Died about 1890.
He Married in 1876 at Freebridge Lynn,Annie Maria Griggs, Born 1851 at East Winch, Died 1937.
In 1881 they lived at 3 East Winch Road Bridge House, Westacre Norfolk.
In 1891 they lived at 40 Lynn Road East Winch.
Children - Elizabeth A. Born 1878, John G. Born 1880, Robert W. Born 1883, Dorcas Sophia ( my grandmother ) 1887, and Alfred J. Born 1889.
I have no further information about Charles Thomas's family - some info was he was a gardener for a Lord ?? and he died from phemonia after falling in water during a hunt and after the hunt went back to work gardening thence causing his demise about 1890.
My Great Great Grandparents on the Griggs side, were John Born about 1816 and Ann born 1819 with children James born 1845, Walter Born 1847, and Annie Maria ( my great grandmother ) born 1851. There may have been other siblings born after 1851.
My Great Great Great Grandparents on the Griggs side, may be William Born 1777 and Mary Born 1877 with children John, born about 1816 ( my great great grandfather ) and a brother Walter born about 1821, all Agriculture labourers.
My Great Great Great Great Grandfather would be John Griggs born at East Bridge, Freebridge Lynn in 1761 also an agriculture labourer.
If anyone in the East Winch / Gaton / King's Lynn area have any futher details about the Thomas / Griggs families or are possibly a relative I would be pleased to hear from you.

You posted this a while ago, but I only came across it today. Alfred's mother and father were Robert Eves (b1819) and Elizabeth Green(b1820).Robert had an undefined father but his mother was Elizabeth E(a)ves (b1802).She was the daughter of Thomas Eaves(b1777) and Elizabeth Franklin(b1776)Note the change of surname spelling. Margaretta Anna West was the daughter of George and Elizabeth.I do not know Elizabeth's maiden name. George was born in 1816 and Elizabeth in 1817.I haven't kept up with recently but 1977 was the earliest Eves we could trace on the family tree without searching parish records. Hope this helps

My name is David Emsley. I am from Sporne stock. I was named after your grandfather who was a favourite brother of my grandmother. By chance I now live about 1 mile from Middleton Towers, where your grandfather worked. The gamekeepers cottage still exists. I am quite familiar with the Sporne family tree (Titchwell and Brancaster). Please email if you wish (david.emsley2@btinternet.com)

Is LIN CAN still operating? I spent much of the heatwave summer of 1976 working in LIN CAN as an operative on pealine 4 - very sweaty work with steam and then cold water from condensation from the ceiling hitting your back~ after the girls had picked out the bad peas a hopper funnelled them into tins~ the lid was put on and the tins were diverted into huge colenders and we wheeled them up to a winch and lowered them into the retort where they were cooked~ the colender was put on a bogey like a skate board so we skated back to the line from the retorts - every now and again the machanism to seal the tin got gummed up and we'd get a break as we were not allowed fix the machine as that was a fitters job - our supervisor was a George Borwood~ I still have my blue cap somewhere.****We all stayed in a campsite between LIN CAN and Donald Cooks~ if we were on night shift~ it was too hot to sleep in our orange plastic tents bought in millets so we slept in the local church until the Vicar fired us out so we slept in the church yard plenty of shade under the trees. the ground was so dry that tent pegs could not get a grip.****We drank in a local pub cannot remember its name but there was a trade dispute with Norwich Breweries so the pub was only getting its winter allocation on a Thursday~ by Friday night the Carlsberg was gone and by Wednesday all we had to drink was bottled ale pale - ****We'd go into town on the ferry and drink in the Romer pub near a shopping centre~ pick up a takaway from rice bowl and have to walk all the way round home as we frequently missed the last bus.****One day George called us into the office to tell us that last pea had been harvested and we were let go.****I've never eaten a tinned pea since.****HUGH SHERIDAN**Sligo**Ireland.

I am researching my husband's family - Gathercole (Edmund/Elizabeth Ashley). Apparently many generations were born here and several left for America together. We are hoping to find relatives who stayed behind and may have photos or family documentation. Thank you!

Calling all Marham residents...Can you help!!! My name is Rhoda and I have **recently found out I have sister!! My father was in the RAF stationed at RAF **Marham (David Small) and had an affair with a lady who lived in Marham village **in the 1960's. All I know is that the daughter he fathered was named Maria or **Marie and she was believed to be born between 1963 and 1965. I'm not sure but I **think the lady's name was Sylvia or something simliar and they lived behind The **Bell pub. Maria/Marie was born at the old Kings Lynn hospital. I have spoken to **Kings Lynn Registrars who couldn't really help as I have no surname ( and she **wasn't registered as Small) They I think have moved away since but any info ( I **am looking for a surname) would be most helpful.
