Interesting that you have the same name as myself! I've also been investigating this branch of the Saint family that emigrated to Australia; I've posted more information at http://saintfamilies.com under the "Sherbourne Saints" tab, and the full Saint family tree at WorldConnect database=dorsetsaints.

I'm building my family tree. Some of my ancestors came from Dorset~ particulary Netherbury and Dorchester. John Bartlett (1786-1872) born in Netherbury~ died in Dorchester. He was married to Isabella Hill. They had a son David Bartlett born in Netherbury 1811. Would be grateful if anyone has information.

I am seeking further information about John Hawker born at Littlewindsor c. 1808/9. He became a builder and was living in Weston-super-Mare at the time of the 1861 census. Close by in Weston~ at the same time~ lived Alfred Hawker (my great-great-grandfather)~ also a builder~ who was apparently born at Bishop's Hull near Taunton. I am trying to establish if there is any any family connection between John and Alfred. Any information would be much appreciated.

Hello Elaine Shea,
Hello Elaine Shea, I have been notified of your entry of today on the English Villag site, and this is the only space where I can acknowledge it. I will look up the details - but don't know how I can let you know the result, as there is no further space for comment and I have no e-mail address. I did leave mine but see that it has been omitted. You could correspond with me through the Dorset OPC site:http://www.opcdorset.org Geraldine

Hello Frances,You were researching John Turner of Netherbury two years ago. Did you ever find him ? I have been researching this same Turner family for an enquirer who believed that John Turner died young and that the wife Mary ended up in an asylum - and the children in the workhouse. I am at ggasparelli@aol.com and if you'd like to contact me privately, I could put you in touch

I now learn my Grandfather John Govier was born at Templemans Ash~ Whitchurch **near Bridport Dorset-23rd Feb 1853**to mother Charlotte Louisa Govier formerly Woodland## and father Simeon Govier- **all of whom are burried near Bury~ Lancashire.****I am puzzled - Why would Simeon & Louisa~ along with several sons~ & at least **three daughters~ and other family members~ all come & settle in Lancashire in **the late 1880's. The menfolk took work as carters~ farmhands etc## and most of **them married here and had large families. Some of the women worked in the mills.****I would appreciate any details of Simeon & Louisa's Dorset background. As a **young child I would hear references to place names like Christchurch~ Corfe **Castle~ Bridport~ Whitchurch Canonicorum. Regards - **eddie.govier@tiscali.co.uk Bolton~ Lancs.

Eddie, the population in rural areas grew quickly because of the Industrial Revolution, Farm work was hard to come by. Young people left their villages in droves searching for employment & some a new life overseas. I have quite a few cousins from Aus, Canada, S.Africa, NZ & US. Their ancestors left England for a better life. Hope that answers your question. Cheers. Hi Geraldine, I am still searching for my elusive OLIVERS! You may remember me from 10 years back. Am living in Indonesia presently so firstly great job done with the OPC, fantastic.I am trying to locate Edward HALLETT baptism, he was a Thatcher his wife was Jane MILLER. Have only seen them on 1861 cenus for Netherbury from my notes taken years back- Edward was 77, Jane 73. Married 1809 Whitchurch Canonicorum. I have some census records from Netherbury but only a few... any plan to get them online? Also anyone researching OLIVERS, GILES,from Dorset & TURLS in Hampshire -I have a lot of info on these Families. Not on compute

John Case
Corscombe, Dorset (3.6 miles away)
My name is John Case (b. 29/9/1950) and I live in Adelaide Australia and have begun researching my family tree.****I have traced back to my great grandfather (name Emanuel Case) whose parents were John Case wife Esther~ who lived in the area of Coscombe.****John and Esther had (at least) one other child (Nathanial) who died on 15 January 1829 (age 14 - a twin of Emanuel?).****Emanuel was also born in 1815 and christened on 13 Nov. 1815. He emigrated to South Australia in 1837~ on the ship the "Canton" and arrived at Port Adelaide on 2 May 1838. The colony was first settled 1n 1836~ so it was very early times.****Emanuel married Jane Starr (Stars) on 6 Nov. 1844 at Adelaide. They had 11 children~ John Martin (b.1851?)~ Esther Mary (b.1846)~ Catherine Lucy (b.1849)~ Frances Michael (b.1852)~ Isaac Phillip (b.1854)~ Elizabeth Anne (b.1857)~ Peter James (b.1859)~ Ellen Jane (b.1862)~ Emanuel William (b.1864)~ Mary Theresa (b.1868)~ Arthur Philip (b.1871). ****Are there any descendents still living in the area?****Does anyone have any more information which would help me research further back.****It appears that Emanuel's descendents were very prolific~ I have masses of information since 1838 but almost nothing prior.****Please contact me via my email address johncase@adam.com.au.****Thanks**21 August 2004
