Please can anyone help. I have been left some things belonging to my fathers family. Among them there is a sports cut given for the Junior 1/4 mile by the misses Terry in 1889. Could anyone elaborate on this please? Ideally I would like to know whos cup it was that year as it has no name on it.

Her mother was Ellen Matilda Evans (previously Woodruff) and she had 3 brothers Bernard~ Brian and Robert. Aunty Val lived at 14 Petersham Ave Byfleet and I lived at no 22 Petersham Ave. I now live in Windsor. I don't think I have any photo's of Aunty Val, but I will ask my sister Dawn if she has any.I am sorry to hear Val died, I lost my daughter Gemma 27yr in August 2005 and and my son Steven 26yr in June 2006, your nan Val was their great aunt, take care Tracey x

My father~ Robert Keith Drew~ was born in Shepperton in 1925 and lived at 104 Charlton Road. He emigrated to Australia in 1950. Unfortunately he is no longer alive~ but I have found an old silver coloured cross with the inscription SHEPPERTON along the width and S MARTIN'S GUILD along its length of the back. The family attended St Nicholas' Church~ and I don't believe there was a St Martin's Church in Shepperton. Does anyone know what S Martin's Guild was? Dad did train to be a draftsman. Could this be something to do with that? I know there is (or was) a St Martin's Guild in Birmingham that is something to do with bell ringers~ but my father never mentioned being a bell ringer and the cross says Shepperton~ not Birmingham.****If anyone else has male relatives who were part of the 'Charlton Road gang'~ most like in the early 1930s~ I have a photograph of them!****Thanks~ Robyn

Hi ~ I once lived in Hart Road~ Cornwall Ave~ went to St Marys School and then west Byfleet.... Worked in village as a Hairdresser 1968. My family name then Diana Ford~ I had brother Nigel~ Sisters Susan and Rosemarie... Father Russell since died~ but mothers still living Lola.. I lost contact with the Francis family in 1960. They used to live in Russell Road~ Horsell (No 46 I believe the house facing down towards Horsell High Street). Mrs Francis used to work in the Public House in South Road (The Plough). She had two daughters and a son. The elder daughters name was Sylvia and would have been 17. The son Robert? Was about 10 and the little one about 6. I would appreciate any information as to how they all are and if possible make contact with them. I lived in Waldens Park Road

I am researhing my mother's family. Some records indicated that her mother may have lived in Woking-Surrey. Her parents are listed on her marriage certificate as Samuel Brown and Emily Macklin. Her name was Sophia Mary Brown. She was born Nov. 1872 (posibly 1871) She immigrated to the US in 1900 where she married and stayed until her death. I have been unable to find birth records for her in spite of several tries through the GRO. Any help or further suggestions would be appreciated. (I am in the US so doing my own footwork at this time in England is imposible).

Hello**I am doing family history and just wish I was closer to visit.**My ancestors came from the area**Samuel Giles 1745 Kintbury m Mary Tory parish recorder and schoolmaster Walton on Thames...**His son Peter Giles b 1778 married Elizabeth Hone was a farmer in Hersham. **They had 8 children (One being Edward Giles my g g grandfather) who came to Australia.**How can I quickly find out where Peter & Elizabeth Giles were buried and if there graves exist today~ which cemetry. Also Samuel and Mary Giles information. Particulary information on Samuel the School master. ** **Would records exist showing where the farm may have been. My gggrandfather later went to London and became a surveyor . My great-grandfather~ Henry Gillham~ was born at Horsell c1848. It is possible that he was born at a gypsy encampment on the common. Does anyone have any infomation on the gypsy camp of the Gillham family?**Many thanks.

• If I've got the right Henry Gilham he was the son of William Gilham and Lois Hampton and married Mary Tillier. They did indeed live on Horsell Common in Anthonys opposite the Bleak House pub (http://www.woking.gov.uk/woking/living/magazine/routewinter09.pdf). I don't know that it was a gypsy encampment but there were definitely a lot of Gilhams and Hamptons who lived there. The Hamptons are certainly a local family rather than travellers coming from Pirbright. The grave of William and Lois Gilham can be found in Horsell Churchyard.
