Leslie Williamson
Kennoway, Fife (4.6 miles away)
I am doing a one place study of Kennoway. The plan is initially record every birth, marriage and death that took place (ideally recorded - not always the case) in Kennoway. I will then attempt to link as many persons (one big family as such)together no matter how distantly related. I have some very clever software to help me with this. To date I have recorded around 15,000 names.
Inevitably the records spill over into surrounding areas (Markinch being a prime example) and may need including ultimately. This will result in a task far greater than I can achieve on my own and would welcome any volunteers to assist, ideally doing similar studies in surrounding villages.
Team work would be required to eliminate double work taking place and I can explain what is involved to anybody who might like the challenge.
Even if you don't fancy taking on such a large project, sending me your family tree would be of great value. Again I can discuss the privacy issues etc. when contacted.
When the whole thing is complete (or as far as I can go) I shall post it on the internet to help others trace the family history.

Hi Eleanor I had your father's birth year & place of birth and nothing else, so thanks for giving me a little more info. The project is taking a lot of time (and money!) and I have still a long way to go before I start the major exercise of joining the families together. I have managed to join quite a few as I plod along entering up new names, but nothing in a concentrated effort yet. I am trying to stay as close to doing only Kennoway BMDs however Markinch and surrounding areas do get some attention also. If you email me at les-williamson@ntlworld.com we can correspond directly and I can go into more depth about my Kennoway project.

Hi Leslie, my father, Charles Alexander Henderson was born in Kennoway on 9/11/18 - his mother was Mary Johnstone Bayne & father Charles Henderson. How are you getting on with your project - on birth certificates etc I notice other villages such as Ceres, Marhinch, Pitlessie, Kingskettle etc. Wuld be happy to help :) Best wishes Eleanor Neil (nee Henderson).

Hi Lesley I am steadily entering up the records but still have along way to go before I really get down to joining up the families. I suspect it will take at least another 12 months. If you email me at les-williamson@ntlworld.com I will keep your address on file and email you from time to time with a progress report. I am still mainly working on the dead (the living are always more difficult to trace Births & Marriages). When I do get onto the living I am hoping that the schools and the like will offer to help. I have a small printing company that specialises in school yearbooks and produce Buckhaven's and a few others in the area so have a good relationship with them. I would appreciate your own family line and am more than happy to do some research for you.

Just wondering how you were getting on. I lived in Kennoway from 1950 - 1966, my sister still lives there. I have fancily members who were born and died in Kennoway. Lesley

I am trying to gather family information on the Scott family that emigrated from Kingskettle to South Africa in the late 1800's~ early 1900's. My grandfather was William John who stayed a lot with his Uncle in Dusseldorf before the Great War~ his brother was Walter. Their father's name was John Scott.
