My great grandfather Frederick Waddoups was born in Aston le Walls in 1830. Married Sophia Young in 1859~ they migrated to Australia in c 1860. Are there any Waddoups still living in the area.

Hello any.one that remembers me in Byfield. I wonder if anyone could tell me or put me in contact with the "Waterfield" family. Mr waterfield was choirmaster at the church~ and he had three children ~ One who is named Patrick ~whom I would very much like to contact~ He also had two sisters I remember one of their names is Janet. They all sang at the church in the choir. If anyone could help me out I would be very greatfull. Many thanks in advance~ Paul Clarke.

My first memorys of Byfield dates back to 1937 when I first attended the school infant class. My teahcer was Mrs Young and Mr Jackson was the Headteacher when I left in 1946. I lived at 2 Whitecroft Cottages that was without a bathroom~ so a tin bath and an outside loo was used. The loo paper was newspaper cut up and hung on a string. An outside wash-house was used on a Monday~ consisting of a copper and dolly tub. As children we went picking blackberrys and bluebells from the woods~ also hedge violets. We walked down to Boddington Pool for picnics~ passing a camp where Italian Prisoners of War were housed in wartime. The village hall was situated behind the Rose and Crown~ and on a Saturday night RAF servicemen from Chipping Warden and locally billeted soldiers came to dance. Mainly to Victor Sylvester records with the local girls. I remember queing for bread and doughnuts at Mr Smiths bakery~ and people kept pigs that were slaughtered in their back gardens by Bert Wingrove~ a local man. The great event of the village was the May Day when a May Queen was elected~ and we danced around the Maypole. My school friends were Esme Haynes~ Gladys Barnes~ Rita Stowe~ Marie Lawrie. Rose Spriggins and Lillian Seath were evacuated from London and returned after the war ended. My father Mr Albert Ti##pler organised a concert of local talent~ tourning the villages to raise money towards a playing field for the village. Among the artists were Tom Buckle~ Glenis Hayes~ Florence Hemming and myself. A local farmers son~ Peter Bromley played an accordian and told jokes~ he was tragically killed in a motor cycle accident. I got married in Byfield in August 1950 to Peter Stuchbury of Woodford Halse who is now deceased. I now live in Skegness and would be pleased to hear from anyone who remembers me (Barbara Tipler) at school.

My Grandmother lived at No.10 Ten Cottages in Wormleighton. Her married name was Bignell and she had 5 children~ all of whom have sadly passed on. My brother still lives at No.4 Ten Cottages. I grew up in the village from 1943 to 1948. In those days we had a school~ Post Office/shop police station with a local Bobby. Only one bus a week though~ on a Saturday to take the villagers to Banbury.I remember vividly going to the manor house along with most of the inhabitants of the village to watch the Coronation in 1953 on a minute black and white TV with the chairs laid out as they would be in a cinema. Quite an occasion! My Grandfather worked for Earl Derbyshire on the estate first as a shepherd and then in his later years as a gardener. I was in the village about 3 weeks ago (My mother is buried in the chuchyard there) and it hasn't changed that much. The Manor house is sadly in need of some serious renovation~ but the Watchtower in the centre is standing the test of time well. I would be happy to read comments from anyone who lived there and possibly knew me and my family. Finally~ if you have never been to this hidden gem of a village~ do go~ youwill be pleasantly surprised
