I am A.E.Richards. I live in Coventry where my parents moved to after the War.My Father of whom I know very little was born Royston Yorkshire.When he died in 1974 some of his family came to his funeral from Royston.I want to trace them and go visit them.I only know that he had a sister Alice, the rest of his siblings I know nothing of .I believe he had a brother who was killed in the Burma campaign but this is only hearsay.My fathers' name was Albert Edward Richards and he was a Major in the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers 2nd Battalion.His wife was called Mary (nee)Smithson or Binns.He was acting an Lt.Colonel when he suddenly resigned his commision to return home immediately as his wife had been in an accident and was not expected to pull through.She did after some time. His Mother lived in Wakefield during her old age and I can only remember seeing her once so this information may be flawed.My Mothers' father was known as the Kelfield Flyer though his real name was William Binns.
If anybody in the Royston area knows of any of the family or how to locate them, please let me know as I intend to visit the village to further my search there but would like a lead or two. Albert Edward Richards, born around December 21st. 1906.

  My grandfather was Sam Richards, who had a brother called Albert Edward Richards and a sister called Alice Richards. They are from Wakefield and My grand uncle Albert moved to Coventry and was a Major also. Maybe we are related through this connection

I am tracing the family history of the Newcombes. Father William and sons Alfred, Arthur, Robert & Horace all worked at South Kirkby Colliery between 1891 and 1911.
WILLIAM & SARAH died in Hemsworth in March 1911. Husband & Wife die at same time, a terrible tragedy? ROBERT married MARTHA ELCOCK in 1903. HORACE served in the Great War and found out his wife ELIZABETH BARTRUM was living with another man whilst he was away.She died in 1917 and Horace married ELIZABETH PARKIN the same year.
Horace died in Hucknall, Notts in 1925.
Martha Newcombe took in Horace's children (Colliery Cottages, Carr Lane) after their mother left.
I need your help! How did William & Sarah die? Did Robert join the army 1914-1918? So many things do not add up! Family history passed down the generations don't match the documents available. Perhaps some local knowledge will help me solve this puzzle, I hope so.

I was born at Spring Terrace. I lived next door to Aggy Fenn. I remember Doug and Tilly Cunliffe ( and Susan) . My Parents Best Man was Granville Pygott. My Grandfather Tom Wood ( same name as my father) Lived on Albert Street Cudworth. He fought in France with the York and Lancasters in WW1 . Then in Palestine. Ring any bells with anyone?

Watson/ Reed~ looking for relatives of George Benjamin WATSON who married Eiizabeth Mary REED in 1872~ George was an undertaker. They had one child Ethel Martha WATSON who married Benjamin Roy CLARK a Yorkshire miner engineer they had six children~ Ern b:1912~ Cyril b:1914~ Roy b:1916 fell down a mine shaft in 1932 and died. Twins Leonard and Della b: 1918~ and Colin b.1932. Ethel and Benjamin moved to Australia it is not known when. I would like any information on the family of Benjamin Clark.

hi i'm Don Franks and I was an evacuee in Shafton from 1940 to 1946 I was five years old when I arrived and remember both Mr Hoyland and Mrs wilsom (my favourite teacher) very well Mr Hoylands two children Iaan and Unice (I think that was their names).I lived first at Blounts Avenue then 53 Pontefract Road~. I made a nastalgic trip up to Shafton many years ago and the house I lived in in Pontefract Road had been knocked down and a road built in its place the house was next door to the Fox and Hounds pub my friends at school were Kenny White and Dorothy May who lived just up the road from me and Alan Greenwell and John rogers aka Roy.We used to try and bunk into the Rock cinema in Cudworth not always with success. Have some very happy memories of Shafton and the school had to come down to London and found I was two years ahead of pupils at new school which didn't go down too well with the teacher especially as I had a broad Yorkshire accent would love to revive memories of that time. I shall be visiting Shafton again fron next Monday for a couple of days would like to meet anyone from around that time
