I am interested in finding out information or making contact with someone knowledgeable about an old folktale I had read about concerning this village. It said that the town was pestered by fairies who would make a racket entering the gates of each house at night. Needless to say the gates were in constant need of oiling so they wouldn't make so much noise. It said the villagers would gather in early evening to oil the gates once a month.

**Am searching for any details of Nathan Thompson~ his wife Mary Ann and their children - 7 girls - who lived in Quarry Cottage~Forest Row from**about 1882 - 1890. He was a coachman. My G'mother Nellie was born**in the village 1883. Any Church or School records found ? Known children were called Mary C.~ Edith Annie~ Katharine Mary~ Lilian C.~and **Nellie. There were four birth/deaths of infants from 1884-1889. Who owned Quarry Cottage then/where was the Quarry ? HELP PLEASE !

I am seeking info on Richard Comber b 1805 of 'Woodards ? Farm Balcombe and especially his family connection to John Comber who died1828 in Horne. John's widow Deborah Comber 55 and son James 15 were working/living at Woodards when 1841 census was taken.. I know there's a connection - any help here greatly appreciated.

Iam researching my family history and believe my great uncle Richard Stephen Cornford ran the Post Office at Ctawley Down with his wife Ellen Mellora nee Verrall.It would be great to find out what family still exist as we have only just discovered this long lost relative!**
