just read about eliza maud stone from wittersham kent.
my great gran was called maud stone and lived in wittersham most her life.
she married in to the stone family her husbands name was william(harry).

hi, thanks for the message, I actually got the names mixed up, on my grandads birth certificate its Maud Eliza Stone, we know she was a general domestic servant of Peening Quarter, Wittersham, before she had my Grandad, on 18/06/1925, and she had him at West View, Tenterden, which was a hospital, but not sure if it was a poor house then or something?? if you have any information, it would be great, but I doubt it was your great gran, as that appeared to be her maiden surname Stone, and there is no father registered on the birth certificate, and my grandad got sent to a childrens home , so I presume he was illegitimate, he certainly didnt want to talk about it ! But if you have any information on William's family , perhaps she was a member of his family ? any info would be brill thanks Fiona

Hi~ I noticed that someone called Desmond Nicholson had posted something in 2004 ~ saying that he had lived in Wittersham from 1925 to 1939~ my grandfather Edwin Arthur Stone was born in Wittersham to my grandmother Eliza Maud Stone who was unmarried~ we would love to hear from anyone who had any information as to where Maud was born or any information as to where she worked etc~ we know she worked as a servant in Wittersham somewhere. thanks Fiona

i belive he was from the brighton area origenaly i know he had brothers and sisters but dont no how many i think 1 sister was called frances.he had 9 children 6girls and 3 boys and lived to start in smallhythe from about 1916+ them wittersham.

Am I researching my husband's tree (pity I wasn't interested before I moved back home to New Zealand!). ## The family name is ROOTS. ## Richard ROOTS b. 1811/1812 High Halden lived in Smarden from 1861 until he died in 1889. ## I have some Smarden addresses he was at from Census reports i.e Rose Lane (farmed 29 acres)~ New Harbour House(?)~ Stinky Paths (that's what the writing looks like) - farmed 30 acres. ## His daugher Mary Ann WHITE ran The Flying Horse pub with hubby Charles from 1881 - 1901. ## Does anyone have any historic stories about Richard and his family. ## Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I am trying to research my family tree.My great grandfather was born in 1844 in **Smarden.His name was George LINK~who married Alma Jane Palmer of West Malling **in 1874.My problem is that although I have a copy af their marriage **certificate~ I cannot find any info on George other than his marriage.Should **anyone reading this also be researching the LINK family please contact and put **me out of my misery.I wish to know his mothers name~his fathers name was James.**** **UPDATE**After a lot of research I discovered that George Link was actualy born in **Teynham 1842 and not as he had stated on the 1891 census as Smarden 1844. His **mothers name was Rebecca Baker b 1818 Teynham and his father was James Link b **1816 Great Chart.
