I am trying to find out about my relatives. The family name is Pitelen and my father always told me that his father's uncle came from Norfolk and he was a milkman. When I look on the Geneaology sites Shotesham always comes up as having records of Pitelen families. Can you help?

COURTNEY FAMILY TREE RESERACRH**Monday~ 12 October~ 2009 12:37:19From: Robert Courtney
Add **To: romeseynet@romseynet.org.uk ******--------------------------------------------------------------------------------****Sent by:**Robert Courtney**e-mail: trebor191250@yahoo.co.uk** **I am trying to establish the circumstances surrounding the death of my grandfather William Robert Courtney. He was born on 28 January 1880~ and died according to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission on: 18 December 1916. However~ the web-site run by the Latter Day Saints~ Family Search. org. list his death as occuring some time in July 1916. During the Frist World War he served as a greaser on the HMS Armadale as a Merchant Marine Reserve~ His death is recorded as that of drowning. My late father: John Andrew Courtney (died 09/01/1987) informed me that his ship was sunk by a German U-boat having been torpedoed. However~ the HMS Armadale saw little enemy action and was recommissioned after the war in 1919~ and was eventually scrapped in 1936. A war memorial plaque listing the deaths of 248 identified casualties can be found located at the Wallasey (Rake Lane) Cemetery~ Liverpool~ near to the Cross of Sacrifice. ** **In addition I would like to find out the parents of William Courtney~ my great~ great grandfather~ born abt 1821 and married to Mary Symonds~ who was born about 1822 (1841 census). If my research is correct I believe William's mother is Sarah Courtney. Sarah's father was John Courtney~ (occupation: fellmonger)~ born abt. 1771 and whose wife I believe is Esther~ born abt. 1772. All the above mentioned lived within the Southampton and surrounding area~ principally Civil Parish of St. Marys~ Southampton~ Hampshire.** ** In Memory of **Greaser WILLIAM ROBERT COURTNEY**H.M.S. I am researching my grandmother's family. Her name was Clara Dinah Brighton~ daughter of William Walter BRIGHTON and Clara (nee BARNES). They lived in the Norwich area around the 1880's where all 4 daughters were born~ my grandmother being the oldest. They had three other daughters named Nellie~ Violet and Alice. My grandmother came to Australia to marry and I think another sister may have come over as well. I am told by family members that William Walter was a fire chief and I did at one stage see a photograph of him in uniform but can find no record of this. Please contact me if you have any information you may like to share. Thank you in advance.

I am researching my family history and am looking for information on the Daynes family c1818. Also of interest is the Somers family c1780's - 1850's Joseph Somer b1781 worked as a gardener in Lakenham and married Mary b1777~ they had a daughter - Ruth b1818 who had 3 sons who took the Daynes name. I don't have a record of her marrying Mr Daynes and her daughter took her name of Somers. Her son Walter b1844 moved to Yorkshire as a journeyman gardener and was my ancestor.

I am researching my father's side of the family and great grandfather was Henry Berry. On the census returns (earliest 1851)it shows him as having come from Earlsoham in Suffolk but I've had no joy there. I looked again and wondered if it might be Earlham. Can anyone shed any light on this? Many thanks

The Way We Were archive history series would like to speak to anyone who went along to the Alpington outings that were filmed by local amateur filmmaker~ Mr Geoffrey Campling. These outings included a lovely day out at Ascot~ a trip to Blakeney with the Norwich Photographic Society and cockling at Wells-Next-the-Sea. These films were taken in the 1950s and possibly the 1960s.If you were there~ or can give us any background information~ please give us a call on 01263 587876~ or email alison@fragmentfilms.tvWe hope to hear from you and please note that getting in touch doesn't necessarily mean you will have to appear on tv! Mr Campling also made a film of Yelverton Football Club playing Rockland on the 19th March 1960. If you were a player or supporter and may have attended this match~ could you please also ring the above number. Many thanks~Researchers at The Way We Were
