I am tracing my family tree, my grandfather Frank Flint was born at 199 Saville square, Common Hoyland with his parents Albert and Mary Flint.

I am trying to find out.

If anyone knows of the family - especially of the rumour (in our family) that Albert and Mary were killed in a car accident, unfortunately no one knows the detail or date (the nearest date is sadly between 1911 and 1929).

where the exact location of Saville Square was - it doesn't appear on any local maps but there is a restaraunt called the Saville Square, which I assume is standing on or near the location.

I am searching for descendents of my gt gt gt grandfather William GRAY born 1798 in Hoyland and Sarah Gray (nee DUKE)born 1800 at Thorpe, Wentworth. The 1851 census shows his occupation as a farmer living at Low House Farm Hoyland. His son William was born 1832 in Hoyland Nether and he married Annice STENTON born 1838 in Elsecar, and they also lived in Hoyland Nether. William and Annice had about 12 children one being my gt grandfather also William born 1860 in Hoyland married Charlotte Ann Cook. His son, my grandfather, Walter Gray born 1887 in Elsecar married Hannah Elizabeth Hydes.

Several other relations were living in the area around the same time and I would be thrilled to hear from anyone who is related or from anyone who knows of any Gray families in the local area.

• Thanks for replying.I don't know much about the Gray family. I know John Gray, my grandfather had a sister called Jessie. I believe John and Jessie came from a big family in Elsecar. The men were miners. There is a street in Elsecar named after the family.

Hi. I am trying to find my late Mother's Mother. I have found her 1st and 2nd marriages, but no birth or death. My Dad says she was from the Worltey area or even Askern. Probably born around 1884. Married a John William Horsfield in 1913 and later Albert Ernest Horsfield in 1931. Both marriages were in Leeds. One at Whitkirk and the other a Leeds Registered Building.
Any help on this mysterious woman would be appreciated. I know she was alive in April 1953 because she is on my parent's wedding photos. Other than that nothing.

I recently discovered my grandmother was born in Wortley 1886 and lived with her parents and siblings at 5 Goodwin Road~ John and Mary Brooksbank. John was a Leather Tanner 'Em'ee' and he died abt 1917.Does anyone have any info on this family.There was 6 children but 2 died at an early age Robert~Matilda~Ethel~Joel~Emma my grandmother and Mark. Watson/ Reed~ looking for relatives of George Benjamin WATSON who married Eiizabeth Mary REED in 1872~ George was an undertaker. They had one child Ethel Martha WATSON who married Benjamin Roy CLARK a Yorkshire miner engineer they had six children~ Ern b:1912~ Cyril b:1914~ Roy b:1916 fell down a mine shaft in 1932 and died. Hi~**I lived in Hoyland from 1949 - 1956~ went to St Helens RC school & RC church. Lived in King St Hoyland. The only names I remember were Joe Edwards (my friend). The happiest years of my life and I was sad to leave at the time.**I now live in Melbourne Aus (32yrs) tho I did do a fleeting visit in 2000. Seems a lot smaller and sadly King St has been demolished

hi i'm Don Franks and I was an evacuee in Shafton from 1940 to 1946 I was five years old when I arrived and remember both Mr Hoyland and Mrs wilsom (my favourite teacher) very well Mr Hoylands two children Iaan and Unice (I think that was their names).I lived first at Blounts Avenue then 53 Pontefract Road~. I made a nastalgic trip up to Shafton many years ago and the house I lived in in Pontefract Road had been knocked down and a road built in its place the house was next door to the Fox and Hounds pub my friends at school were Kenny White and Dorothy May who lived just up the road from me and Alan Greenwell and John rogers aka Roy.We used to try and bunk into the Rock cinema in Cudworth not always with success. Have some very happy memories of Shafton and the school had to come down to London and found I was two years ahead of pupils at new school which didn't go down too well with the teacher especially as I had a broad Yorkshire accent would love to revive memories of that time. I shall be visiting Shafton again fron next Monday for a couple of days would like to meet anyone from around that time
