hi. I'm Rob and I am researching my family history in the Thurlestone area. In 1841 Alfred Holland was born at Low Bottoms Thurlestone to Joseph and Elizabeth. Joseph worked on the Sheffield to Manchester railway. I am trying to locate 'Low Bottoms' in Thurlestone. I am told the place name could relate to the ford near to Durrans works on Manchester Road. Can anyone confirm this and are their any other Hollands who's ancestors lived in this area in the period 1840-80?

I am trying to find any information about my ancestor Benjamin Lawton~ he was born in 1788 in Upper Midhope area~ he married Hannah Goldthorpe from Penistone. The emigrated to the US in 1830. I have notes saying Benjamins Father was John~ and his Mother was Hannah Geldhart. Any help is greatly appreciated.**

• Michael, I'm not sure how much help I can give you. Samuel Horn, my g-g-g-grandfather was born 4th July 1790 at Gunthwaite Hall, Upper Denby. His father, Joseph Horn worked at the hall. He came from Kirkheaton where in 1774 he married Mary Blackburn of Hartshead. Apart from Samuel Joseph and Mary (very biblical this) had two older daughters, Hannah and Mary. The only record I have of a William Horn is one born to a Joseph Horn of Gunthwaite in 1794 but no mother's name is given and so I cannot be absolutely sure this is my relative. In any case this William would be much earlier than yours. I also have a record of William Horn marrying Mary Thornton in Kirkheaton in 1820. Joseph Horn, son of Samuel, married Hannah Haigh in Kirkburton in 1832. This was my g-g-grandfather. They had several children, some of who died in infancy. One of these was a William born Cumberworth March 1821, died March 1823. I have contacted a cousin in America who I believe has a William Horn in her records but

Having done some research into my family tree i have found that**my grandfather Fred lockwood came from this area.**His mother and father were called charles and selena lockwood**and they lived at cockle edge farm.**Fred had 3 brothers willie~herbert and joe and 3 sisters**bertha-annie~ emma and alice-anne.**These have been taken from the 1881 and 1901 census**I would be most grateful if anybody has any more information**regarding my family tree ** ANTHONY LOCKWOOD

Looking for family. Mary ann Bone born approx 1832 in Silkstone~ had a son Walter. I think they moved to Kimberworth. Husband Henry was transpoted to Austalia in 1867 for his part in a manslaughter of a game keeper. Would love to find living English relatives of the Bone family.
