hello,i am trying to find details of the birth of "mary jane reeves,possibly about 1867/8 in the local area.she married "william allen" in oldbury on severn on 22nd february 1888.her residence at the time (according to her marriage certificate)was oldbury naite.it also says that her father was "william reeves",sawyer.up to now i an unable to find anything.can anyone help?any information would be much appreciated.

I am looking for information about Rowland Best Griffiths who was born in Tintern in 1885~ he had a sister~ Grace Dorothy. Their mother was Grace Griffiths who died in 1909 in Beaufort Cottage~ Tintern (next to the Abbey). Their father was John Rowland Griffiths who owned the wire works in the area and who died in 1894. My great great grandmother Jane Jones was Grace Griffiths's cousin~ they lived together from the ages of 10 - 30. Jane was married to a Harry Wallis in the church in Tintern in 1890.

• Hi Julia. I am Newport RFC Historian and have a certain amount of info about Rowland Best Griffiths - mainly his rugby career. I was fascinated to see that he was born in Tintern. I was born in St Arvans but now live in Cardiff. Do you happen to have Rowland's exact DOB? I think it was ca March 1885. Do you know also where he died. I believe he died from typhoid at an early age on 11th May 1914.

Hello~ during my family history research I discovered that my great grandparents~ James and Hannah BRAWN~lived~ for some time~ at Wyelands Lodge~ Pwlmeyric~ Matherne and they are registered there in the 1861 census records (though their surname is incorrectly spelt as Brown).In 1863 my great grandmother~ Mary Ann BRAWN~ was born and baptised at St Tewdric's~ on 23 Aug 1863. ## Two years later her sister Elizabeth was also baptised at St Tewdric's on 8 October 1865. Their father~ James~ was a gardener and I'm trying to find any information I can on any big estates nearby where he might have been employed.Can anybody help me please to build a picture of what life was like back then for my great grandmother i.e.~ what school she might have gone to? what Wyelands Lodge looked like?is it still standing?Also~ where can I get a copy of the are maps for 1861?Thanks for reading.

Looking for information on William Croat and wife Catherine****Does any one in the village know any details of my family - I have found out that in the 1851 census for Monmouthshire that a William CROAT age 64~ his wife Catherine 63 and his son George 20 lived in the Hamlet of Stroat. This is a **name I have remembered from years ago and I am sure I am on the right track to finding a family tree - of course it is easy when you have a surname which is not JONES - there are not that many CROAT's around - any help would be **appreciated.
