Does anyone know anything about John and James Gum who both served in the Coldstream Guards. They were born in Keevil in 1832 and 1835 respectively. John had a very successful career but John was not a particularly good soldier. I have a photo of James which I would willingly swap for information about either man.
Thank you.
Jim

Hi Jim, are the parents of John and James, William Gum and Ann Overton(2nd marriage)? if so then I believe they may be related to me via William's brother,Charles, my ggggrandfather. I think I have thier spouses, marriage dates and date of death, maybe more, I will have to trawl through my notes! Contact me if you would like to 'swap'info Regards Lorraine Hazell

John Johnson (b1827, Ireland) married Elizabeth Mason (1843- 1921) in Westbury Wiltshire. I think they had 8 children. John was a Police Constable and according to censuses they live in Highworth, Broad Blunsdon and Hilperton. John died sometime in 1890 and I have yet to trace hos death certificate for confirmation of what he died from. He died in Hilperton. Elizabeth moved to Uckfield where she lived until she died in 1921. Elizabeth's family was from Wiltshire, her parents William Mason and Sarah Prince (married 11 Aug 1822 in Salisbury).
Does anybody have any information about the families?

I am researching the Andrews family. James Andrews was born in Wingfield in 1805 and married Elizabeth ? born Rhode Somerset in 1802. Jamess' father was George Andrews born 1786. I have no further information about them~ who they married~ when~ or occupation. I would welcome any information regarding this. I know that James and Elizabeth became publicans in East Meon Hampshire at some time following the birth of their second child Charles born 1835.

I have a Gt Gt Aunt Mary Anne House who married a John Wiltshire of Keevil in 1876~ July 22nd. She was known to my mother and aunt as Aunt Polly and was still living in the area around the early 1920's - possibly in Westbury. As yet I have no further info but would like to identify her visually as I have a collection of un-named old photographs that had been removed from a family album and album lost in 1950's. My House ancestors go back in this area - Keevil~ Edington - to Richard House~ born 1680~ died Keevil 1754.(occupation shoemaker.)Female spouses of this line have surnames:Highet~ Peplar~Scull~Burbridge and Ladd - all from this immediate area.

Hi**According to Fenland Notes and Queries: Page 194**Huntingdon (Cambridgeshire) - 1897**there was a Richard de Melkesham of Elm (Cambs) who changed his name to ROBERT DE INSULA (presumably Robert De L?Isle). This probably dates to circa 1290- 1300 AD.**Does anybody know how this person might link to the town of Melksham (family called De Melkesham)?**Or~ why he might have changed his name?****Gerard Coldham**gjcoldham@yahoo.com** ****

I would be grateful for any genealogical info for 16th and 17th centuries for the name HELPS. I am descended from the Corsham family and there are the remains of five Helps families in NZ. Trying to find the missing links.

Hi Arana
I am just starting to research my family tree and I have traced it back so far to William Griffin, born about 1834 in Yarnbrook (although various census's note him as also being born in Frome and Trowbridge. I know from his marriage certificate that his father was also called William but this is all I know for sure. There is only 1 census entry in 1841 which includes a William (aged 7), but the head of the Household was recorded as Elizabeth, so either William (the father) was somewhere else on the day of the census, or I have simply hit a dead end.
Anyway, I may be related to your particular tree in some way (however distant) and hopefully you may have some info which may help make this connection.
I would be happy to pass on my Griffin family details discovered thus far (as there is a certain Wiltshire connection) should you wish as they may be useful in your research at some point.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards
Gary Griffin
