Marie Miller
Chathill, Northumberland (1.5 miles away)

My family, the Watsons, lived and worked at Fleetham Farm/Mill throughout most of the 1800's. My 2x great grandfather John Watson (b.1786 Beadnell) had 7 children one of whom was John Thomas Watson (b.1829) my great-grandfather. A sister, Mary Jane Watson (b.1827), married Robert Handyside in 1850 and moved to Stamfordham, Northumberland where they had 6 children. Their youngest daughter Ann Handyside is listed as staying with her aunt Margaret Watson at Fleetham Mill, on the 1881 census.I believe that Mary Handyside (nee Watson) died at South Shields in 1904 aged 77 years while her husband died 8 years later. If anyone has any information about the Watson family could you please let me know. Thanks Marie Miller (nee Watson)

Hi Marie,
Mary Jane Watson and Robert Handyside were my G.G.grandparents. They had 8 daughters and one son Edward watson Handyside. His son George Edward watson Handyside is my Grandfather.Last year I visited Fleetham Mill and Tughall Mill, where Mary Jane was born. The Handyside family farmed at Stamfordham untill 1880 when they moved to West farm Monkton Village, Jarrow. Your information is correct on their deaths. I lived in this village untill my marriage. please get in touch with me if you need any more information. Also could I ask you for more information to help me with my research of the Watsons? Many thanks Irene Gargett( nee handyside)

HI Gina,
My G.G. Grandmother was Mary JANE Watson bORN 1827, SHE lived at Fleetham Mill in the 1800's. She had a brother Robert Watson born 1832. The 1861 census states the Watsons still living at Fleetham Mill and a John Taylor living at Fleetham Village. He was 48 and married. Could he have been Agnes Taylor's father? Please let me know if this information matches up.
