I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has any knowledge of the history of the former Lamb Hotel, which was once a prestigious hotel but now apartments. I am particularly interested in the period when it was owned or leased by William and Mary Woodbury. I know they were there in 1901, but do not know when they took over the hotel or when they left. At that time some of their staff included three Manning sisters, Evelyn, Elizabeth and Maria and a great friend of Evelyn's - Minnie Morgan. The girls had come from Cheriton Fitzpaine, near Crediton, Devon. I believe the Woodburys were relatives of the Manning sisters, but I have not yet been able to verify this. Evelyn married my grandfather, Levi Goodman, who had resgined from the Somerset Constabulary to marry her in 1901. They had met, I think, whilst he was stationed at Dulverton Police Station at the start of his police service, two years earlier.
Finally, as well as information about life at the hotel, I would really like to learn anything about Dulverton Police Station at the same period - early 1900's.

• Hi Norman,My uncle Tom Burge worked at the Lamb as a stable lad and also in the kitchens iv got him on the 1901/1911 cencus he lived in Lamb Back which is a cottage behind the hotel i have a photo of his three children standing at the back door of their house,Jane.

I have found that my great great great grandmother~ Betty Cross gave birth to two sons out of wedlock~ the older (1816) being my ancestor. Betty's parents were Benjamin Cross and Jane Stevens. I should appreciate information on any of these~ Thanks~ David

i am looking for any information on my great grandmother jane burge who lived in brompton regis at castle court~she was in the 1881 and 1901 census.she was born 1832 had 4 children~elizabeth born 1872~jane born 1873~eva born 1876~thomas born 1878.elizabeth married a mr patterson~dont know his first name~jane married francis john pyke they then lived at brushford.i would be gratefull for any help.jane.
