After waiting six years for the 1911 Census to come out~ I discovered that my wife's GGgrandad was born in Springfield in abt 1792.**He was a gardner by trade but by 1828 he had moved to Rainham in Kent was listed as a victualler and then an inn-keeper.**I wondered if anyone could throw any light on him. I am intrigued to know how he managed to achieve this rise in fortune.

I have found a direct connection to Matthew Irons (Mathias Innes) born supposedly in Danbury. I am interested in going back further~ hoping to find Matthew's parents~ grandparents~ etc. Is there a site that has information pertaining to this request?

I am researching the history of Chipping Hill Infants School~ Church Street~ Witham. I am anxious to make contact with any former pupils~ staff or governors (or their relations) in order that we can compile a comprehensive history of the school prior to it's move to new premises September 2010. The school opened approximately 1873.

McGORRERY family Springfield Rd 1881. Henry Mc Gorrery was the Governor of HM Gaol at Springfield. I would love to have a local look up Baptisms/deaths for me 1861- 1881 f possible. I have approx dates. Is there a Local history group or Library which might help me?****I have a photo of the house with the family on the lawn -is it still standing? It seems to be between Gaol Lane and 10 Hill Terrace if that makes sense!**I would be most grateful for any leads!**Thanks**Marlene**

Love UK Villages.****Have a query about Fairseat~ can anyone tell me if there was a large walnut tree opposite a row of 3 cottages? I have a postcard showing this picture (about 1910) but am aware there is a Fairseat in Norfolk as well. Is it the Essex Fairseat or not? Can scan the picture to anyone who wants to see.****Many thanks****Jeremy
