Hello~ my name is Cathy and I live in Canada. I am researching my grandmother on my mother's side of the family. My grandmother's name was Mary Ross Davies. Her married name was Mary Ross Kerslake. My grandmother immigrated first to the U.S. where she worked in the cotton mills. After a short while she immigrated to Canada~ to Hamilton~ Ontario. She met my grandfather at the cotton mill where she worked. My grandpa George Kerslake was a supervisor in the cotton mill in Hamilton. My grandmother had several sisters - Sarah~ Annie and Isabelle were three of them. My grandmother and all of her sisters worked at the cotton factories in Farnworth. My great grandfather (Joseph) was a collier. My great grandmother's maiden name was Emily Ross and my great grandfather's name was Joseph Davies. Mary (my grandmother) was born about 1882 in Kearsely~ Uk. Her mother~ Emily was born in Huline~ UK and Joseph in Cheshire. It would be wonderful to hear from anyone that may be related or anyone having any information about my family. My own mother is 87 now and wishes more information about her mother's side of the family. My husband and I are planning a trip to the UK this summer and are gathering information about old Farnworth and surrounding area before we come. The history of the area that I have read so far is sincerely wonderful. I look forward to learning more.****Many thanks.**Cathy Harding**Vancouver Island~ Canada

I forgot to say in my last message~ Roadley and Alice were married in West Derby in 1934 and lived there as far as I am aware for the remainder of Roadley's life~ and if Alice is still alive~ I would imagine that is where she will be.##Thank you for your patience##Tony Archibald

David Mossman Skinner was my great-grandfather. His son Edward Mossman Skinner married Elizabeth Harvey from Foxdale in the Isle of Man. Their children were Roadley~ born in 1906 and Ruth Gladys~ born in1908. Roadley married Alice M Lea in 1934~ but to my knowledge they had no offspring. Gladys married Robert Cecil Archibald and they had two sons~ Roadley Cecil and Anthony Robert. Both of my parents have passed away~ as has Uncle Roadley. He died in 1990~ but I can find no record of Alice's death~ so she might possibly still be alive~ though she will be over 100 years of age if she is!##I would be very grateful for any information about Roadley and Alice Skinner from anybody who knew them or was possibly related to them.##Also~ I found a photograph of my grandparents with Roadley and Gladys in a school group. The sign on the wall behind them is an architect's dividers~ which I think is one of the signs associated with Freemasonry. My grandfather was in later life a member of the Freemasons and was a lodge master.##If anyone can let me have any information regarding this photograph of the schoold group again~ I would be very grateful.##Thank you for reading this~##Tony Archibald.

I know that Roadley died in 1991 but know nothing at all about Aunt Alice. I would be grateful for any information about them from people who knew them or even better~ were related to them.

Eccleston, Lancashire (2.7 miles away)
I lived in Eccleston~ nr Chorley~ Lancs for 20 years. As a teenager~ I experienced what can perhaps be described as 'ghostly happenings' - once near the new mill by the Protestant church~ I 'saw' a young family dressed in peasant-type clothing by the roadside - they didn't notice me or the rowdy school bus (returning from Bishop Rawstorne)** I was sat in.**I thought this family had perhaps been taking part in a local event and were dressed for the part~ but why had the kids been allowed off school - (the family was a young mum & dad~ and three young kids). Then I waited for the taunts from everyone on the bus but the family escaped ridicule as none of the school kids saw them. I had the opportunity to study them carefully as roadworks meant that temporary traffic lights were stuck on red for several minutes~ they didn't acknowledge the bus in all that time.** The second occasion was at Heskin Hall (when~ again~ roadworks were in place along the mudtrack opposite the hall). Myself and friend saw a group playing croquet on the lawn and they interested us as they were dressed in 1920's type clothes (we poked fun at them but they seemed not to notice us). I knew someone who was working at the Hall that weekend and asked about the group~ but they knew nothing about it and said that Double Glazing Sales traing had occured that weekend. On visiting the hall a few days later~ I noticed that the frony lawn was patchy and lumpy - unsuitable for a decent croquet match~ so why take the trouble to dress up? The third experience happened minutes later - after seeing the croquet party. Further down the track~ towards Bannister Green? we saw an old man who caught our attention as he was dressed raggedly I suppose like Charlie Chaplin. He was rather eccentric in appearance and was unwashed like a tramp I guess~ but neither my friend or myself recognised him as a character from the village - we thought we knew all the village larger than life characters (and there were a few)** Approx. 2 years later~ I saw some old photographs of Eccleston and believed that I saw this same old man standing outside a cottage - the writing on the back of the photo revealed him to be the 'Pig-killer' of no-fixed-abode. Was this the same man? If so~ he was already old and white-haired in the 1890's!?**I am not a firm believer in ghosts - the people I saw seemed real and solid if not a little out of place and unaware of me - except for the pig-killer who shot my friend and I a filthy look. I am curious~ however~ If anyone else has seen anything like this around the same areas.

Hello to anyone who reads this.****No great event.****I'm just doing a bit of research on my family tree.****From about 1948 until about 1953~ I lived with my grandparents in Haydn Rd (105 **I think) Knotty Ash.****We then moved away as my adoptive father was in the navy and based at Plymouth.****We later moved to Storeton near Birkenhead and we visited my grandparents often.****I have many vivid memories of Haydn (spelling?) Road~ my grandparents house and **my many trips on the ferry back and forth from the Birkenhead to Liverpool.****I have no close family alive and any photos~ documents etc that my mother had **when we came to Australia (May 1960 on the P & O liner the "Orion" I think) **have been destroyed.****I am looking to find ANY info/maps/pictures of both Knotty Ash~ Birkenhead and **Storeton so that I can put together a small amount of my history to leave to my **descendents.****I have been able to make contact with "Friends of the Wood" who are now **regenerating the woodland to it's former state (as I remember it).**I was excited to find they have photos of the wood on their website.****Another site (I think it's called Merseyside eCards??) was really helpfull too.****I would also like to trace my real father (or any records pertaining to him) **but I only know his first and last name and I just assume he lived not too far **from Knotty Ash.****Any advice re internet sites that may help me will be greatfully accepted!****cheers~****Samantha**
