Mr. & Mrs Field met on Lord Vesty's Yacht, they lived from 1908 to 1918 on Morris Grange near Scotch Corner. Norman Fields was the nephew of Marshall Fields who was the founder of US Department Stores.
He bought Streatlam Castle and the estate as well as Lartington Hall and lived in Lartington until he died in 1957. Mrs Olive Fields remained in the hall until she died in a car crash in 1973.
I find it very interesting your great Grandmother was a servant at the hall because my Great grandfather (Joe Lancaster) was The Butler and my Great Grandmother (known as Bell) was the cook.
I am in the process of building a website about Lartington Hall, if you would email me your email address - i'll gladly give you the address once it's posted on the web. On there, you will be able to find out all about the hall.

I am looking for links with my family Davisons. George Davison was born in Gainford in 1829. In 1841 he was living at Back Lane with his father John~ mother Elizabeth and brothers Thomas aged 15~ John aged 15~ William aged 10~ Michael aged 6. In 1851 Geaorge is living at Osmondcroft~ Staindrop as a farm servant with a Mary Davison~ aged 75 mother in law~ former farmers wife. George later went on to marry an Elizabeth and had four children in Crook~ my great grandad Thomas was one of them. Born 1869.****I would be really interested to know if there are any relatives linked to this branch of the Davisons still around.

HI just found this site.I think your George is also my 2x great grandfather. His son, John who you mention was my great grand father, Thomas' brother.John married Isabella Hammond, moved to Middlesbrough, had 4 children ( 2 died relatively young) leaving my grandfather and his sister, Eddie. Eddie had one son who is still alive. My grandfather had 3 children, one died at birth, m mum and my uncle who are both dead. My uncle left 2 daughters and my mum had 3 daughters so sadly the Davison name doesn't continue in our branch. I have all my tree on Ancestry - DDHL- it is public and you are welcome to look at it.

Hi, just found your link on this website. I have been researching my husband's family history and know that his grandfather, George Edmond Worley of Old Malton, Thirsk, married Elizabeth Ann Davison, daughter of John Davison a farm labourer of Amotherby, Thirsk. I thought I had found the correct family of Davisons, who seemed to live in and around Helmsley. However seeing your post about the Davisons of Gainford/osmandcroft, Staindrop has made me curious, and wonder if yours could be the correct Davison family? I always thought it curious that George Worley and Elizabeth Davison moved from Thirsk to Gainford in the early 1900's, when I know for certain that George's large family all remained in the Thirsk area. However, I also know that his wife, Elizabeth, had a mild stroke and was incapitated all her life, and wonder if George moved to Winston to be with Elizabeth's Davison family for support. I know that he, and his son Jack Worley (my husband's father) worked at Osmandcroft f

Hi Just found you on this site. I too have Davison ancestors - I think you George may be the same one as mine. George 1828-1898, born gainford, father John 1793 - 1868 and mother Elizabeth Pinkney 1793- 1885. george married Elizabeth Wilkinson.I have Thomas born 1868 on my tree. My 2x g grnad father was John davison, son of George and Elizabeth, brother of Thomas. There were more than 4 children according to the censuses. From 1861 - 1891 George land family lived at North terrace Crook and Billy Row.If you think they may be the same ones I could invite you to view my tree on NAcestry .co.uk
