I am looking for information on the Langford family from Thorncombe. Thomas Langford about 1800 to 1879~ I have no history of the family before Thomas. I also do not have any information on Thomass wife Mary Cornelius or her family. Thomas and Mary had a son James Cornelius Langford about 1830 to 1886. I know that Jamess wifes first name was Mary but have no information other than this. Any information would be gratefully appreciated

Hi Keith,
Just found your post through goggle did not get an email alerting me of your post that’s why so long getting back to you.
I would be very interested to see if our lines connect. I have managed to trace my Langford line back to John Langford 1769-1846. I know John died in Thorncombe Dorset but where born I do not know. He married Betty Phelps of Thorncombe.
Email paul.cain5@btinternet.com
Look forward to hearing from you

Paul,
The forenames of these people all tie up with my ancestors from Chard and Taunton they were weavers, my own branch moved to Spitalfields in London c.1790 I reckon there is an excellent chance that these are the people you are looking for. They were nonconformists, I'm still researching them but have alot of hitory back to about 1640, E mail me if wish and then I can attach the tree I have up to yet with some additional information. I am seeking further information about John Hawker born at Littlewindsor c. 1808/9. He became a builder and was living in Weston-super-Mare at the time of the 1861 census. Close by in Weston~ at the same time~ lived Alfred Hawker (my great-great-grandfather)~ also a builder~ who was apparently born at Bishop's Hull near Taunton. I am trying to establish if there is any any family connection between John and Alfred. Any information would be much appreciated.

I now learn my Grandfather John Govier was born at Templemans Ash~ Whitchurch **near Bridport Dorset-23rd Feb 1853**to mother Charlotte Louisa Govier formerly Woodland## and father Simeon Govier- **all of whom are burried near Bury~ Lancashire.****I am puzzled - Why would Simeon & Louisa~ along with several sons~ & at least **three daughters~ and other family members~ all come & settle in Lancashire in **the late 1880's. The menfolk took work as carters~ farmhands etc## and most of **them married here and had large families. Some of the women worked in the mills.****I would appreciate any details of Simeon & Louisa's Dorset background. As a **young child I would hear references to place names like Christchurch~ Corfe **Castle~ Bridport~ Whitchurch Canonicorum. Regards - **eddie.govier@tiscali.co.uk Bolton~ Lancs.

Eddie, the population in rural areas grew quickly because of the Industrial Revolution, Farm work was hard to come by. Young people left their villages in droves searching for employment & some a new life overseas. I have quite a few cousins from Aus, Canada, S.Africa, NZ & US. Their ancestors left England for a better life. Hope that answers your question. Cheers. Hi Geraldine, I am still searching for my elusive OLIVERS! You may remember me from 10 years back. Am living in Indonesia presently so firstly great job done with the OPC, fantastic.I am trying to locate Edward HALLETT baptism, he was a Thatcher his wife was Jane MILLER. Have only seen them on 1861 cenus for Netherbury from my notes taken years back- Edward was 77, Jane 73. Married 1809 Whitchurch Canonicorum. I have some census records from Netherbury but only a few... any plan to get them online? Also anyone researching OLIVERS, GILES,from Dorset & TURLS in Hampshire -I have a lot of info on these Families. Not on compute
