Angela Bolton
Annan, Dumfries and Galloway (3.1 miles away)

I am researching my family and am really stuck with JAMES CARRUTHERS birth, ANNAN? abt. 1822. Can't find his birth anywhere!! His marriage to CATHERINE REID/REED in 1841, ROCKCLIFFE, CARLISLE, CUMBERLAND, says his dad was WILLIAM CARRUTHERS but William isn't on the 1841 census of Rockcliffe, although his mother is, a MARGARET CARRUTHERS b. 1798, SCOTLAND. The 1841 census info is correct as the witness on their marriage tallies with him living with them. On JAMES' marr cert it doesn't say WILLIAM was deceased. There is a death for a WILLIAM CARRUTHERS in 1855, Dumfries, but JAMES is wrong age.In England, marriage certs aren't giving as much details of other relatives as Scottish records, [mores the pity !]so doesn't provide mums name.
Also, why is Carruthers Town called this? Any relation?
My IRVING family go back to about 1570 in ROCKCLIFFE. JANET CARRUTHERS who is my G-Grandmother, married a JOSEPH IRVING, in 1882, ROCKCLIFFE, CUMBERLAND, that's how name comes up in my tree.

My ancester William Blythe was married at Graitney (or Gretna) to an Elizabeth Wallace from~ I think~ Rigg. This took place in 1840 / 21st / june. I would so much appreciate any information relating to this marriage~ be it supplied by anyone who may be related to said mentioned or anyone else in the village that may recognize the names mentioned from past ancestories. **My ancester John Wallace Blythe (son of the above) was also born ( 1841 / 16th / September ) at Graitney (or Gretna).**Again~ any information relating to this would be most appreciated.**Also information of the Wallaces of this region~ at this time~ would be most fascinating.** **Many thanks~ in anticipation~ ****S.Blythe
