Tony Owens
Ashbourne, Derbyshire (4.2 miles away)
On behalf of my sister, I am trying to trace her ancestry, (we are half siblings, sharing the same father), which I have traced to William George Robert Alleyne Cox, the son of William & Elizabeth Cox.
Both Williams were veterinary surgeons and members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. William Cox senior lived, and presumably practiced, in Church Street - Ashbourne. I have located them there on the 1861 census. Also there was William junior who was then a scholar in veternary surgery at age 21, he went on to practice in Newcastle upon Tyne and died in 1900 at age 69, in Manchester.
I have noticed that the parish church of St Peter has a burial of a William Cox - Veterinary surgeon d.May 26 1862 age 54 & Elizabeth d.Dec 23 1864 age 53. I am assuming that these are both one and the same people, especially since Elizabeths birtplace was Snelston and William senior's was nearby Ellastone. There is another interment of one William Robert Cox son of William & Elizabeth of Leek, on November 1st 1839 age 6. This of course cannot be the same William George Robert Alleyne Cox but it could be his brother (I have no evidence for this) or some other coincidental kin.
So dear reader, if you can furnish me with any corroborative evidence or additional evidence of any of the above, baptisms, marriage, business activity, dwelling place etc then I would be grateful for your input.
My sister and I plan to visit this village and the adjoining ones too in the very near future.
Thank you in anticipation of any assistance given.
Best regards
Tony Owens. September 27th.2010.

Looking for ancestors and relatives. My great-grandparents~ Edward Kelly and Lora (Burton) Kelly sailed to the US from Liverpool on the HMS Samaria. The ship's manifest lists her father William Burton of Queen St~ Middleton as nearest relative.
