Shelford, Nottinghamshire (1.4 miles away)
Family name and details: "Walker". Several generations lived in the village. Last relative to live there left about 20 years ago. Family originated I think, around 1700 from East Bridgford? Many Walkers in churchyard but not sure which are related. My grandmother was born in Shelford around 1898. One of 3 children Hilda,Percy & Wilfred. Parents Hannah nee (Winfield) / Frank Walker. Family ran the Post Office in the village, also small farmers. I think one of the family had a Cobblers/Saddler, maybe previous generation?Would really appreciate any information on the village and family/connections. Have lived in Somerset now for many years.

George Walker, shoemaker (b 1787 in East Bridgford) and Ann Bilton married in 1806 in Balderton. Three children born in East Bridgford, then move to Shelford. George's eldest son, William (b1810) was b East Bridgford and married Sarah Backer. Three daughters, Mary(m Edwin Towers), Charlotte and Ann, and their only son John (b 1839)was a shoemaker too and married Mary Ann Swanwick in 1862, Nov 20 in Shelford. It appears they only had one son, Frank, who was born about 1869 in Shelford. If you'd like further information on the generation before my email is bardw (at) bigpond.com Also there are bits on various trees on ancestry.co.uk which is available on internet at libraries in UK I think, it is here in Australia

My relatives lived~ in the late 1800's~ in Shepherds House~ Stragglethorpe. I believe that this was a row of cottage and think it may have been reborn as the Shepherds Pub. I would welcome any information regarding wether or not I'm right.

Thomas Carrington married Mary Severins (or Severns) in 1792 at Woodborough. His son Jonathan was born in 1798 in the village but Thomas was not. Would like to know his place of birth/baptism.

G'day Viewers!**I am an old Epperstonian and lived in the village on Chapel Lane through the years 1946 to 1950. Quite by change happened to surf on to this site and the nostalgic juices are flowing!. I am probably talking to myself since it is such a long time ago and yet~ do you know~ you never forget the formative years of your life. Some names I recall from my boyhood? The Knowles family who ran the garage on the by-pass particularly John~ Mavis and Charles. The Walster boys (I may have that surname wrong but something similar!) whose family were farmers and lived on the corner opposite the playing fields. Sandy Wilkinson who when I left to join the Air Force at 15 and a half also left to join the Navy at HMS Ganges. Never heard from him again but he would recall how he and I held together the Village Boys Football team in the field opposite the Cross Keys pub. You know where that ancient monument which is~ in effect~ a giant brick-built pidgeon loft is sited? Our 'manager' was Cliff ? who as well owned the only shop in the village just by the pub which was also a family-run affair whose name escapes me. Then there was the Police Headquarters opposite the Church whose vicar signed a reference for me to give to the RAF and opposite my home was also the home of the South Notts Hunt Kennels! The smell of those hounds haunts me today 20~000 miles distant on an island on the east coast of Australia! Hope I have not bored you too much with my prattling but it has been for me a wonderful five minutes of looking back and I crave your indulgence. Best wishes to you all.**Tony Sargeant
