I am looking for an ancestor who I believe may have lived in the Pontefract/Byram area of Yorkshire. The ancestor is William BYRAM~ born in 1793. I am from the States~ and our legend over here is that he emigrated to America as a cabin boy. We have a military payroll record from 1814~ when he would have been 21~ but nothing earlier. Anyone have anything that could back up this story?

I'm looking for any references to family or descendants of a married couple Edward Paty and Anna Shillito~ both born in Featherstone~ Yorkshire~ he in 1602+/-~ she in 1606+/-. They immigrated to Barbados and on to the South Carolina colony sometime between 1632 and 1657. I can't find any specific web references to them. I have found references to a Johannes Paty (de Recale) in a "Register of Freemen" from 1272-1302 and a later referrence to an apparent member of Commons from Aylesbury in1704. Also~ on the Shillito side some references in the Feet of Fines for Yorkshire in 1601 for land transfers (messuages~ etc) in Castleford~ Hougheton~ Allerton-by-Water~ Whitwood~ Agbrigg~ Heathe and Warmefielde.**Any thoughts? I'm researching some family history which takes me back to Altofts at the turn of the 20th century. So far I have traced my husbands maternal line to the Jones family (James & Catherine) who lived at 33 Pope Street but I have drawn a blank from there. I have been told they had at least 4 daughters and a son but only know details of 2 Eliza Jane and Elizabeth. If anyone could help me out with some information I would be most grateful.

They had one daughter~ Edith who died about 50 years ago. Is there anyone in Brotherton connected to the Eyre family who lived there in the 1700/1800's? I believe that my gt.gt.gt. grandmother was a Mary Eyre daughter of John and Ann and who married a Timothy Smith in 1786. I have come to a complete dead end with Mary's family and would love to know more. She and Timothy had a large family amongst whom was an Eliza Smith who married Thomas Jones. Eliza was the schoolmistress in Brotherton in 1845. Husband Thomas died young and left her with two sons~ Charles and John Smith Jones. I am also trying to find out about the Rhodes family. My great grandparents lived in and are buried in Methley~ though originally from Staffordshire. They are Thomas Potts and Sarah Wakelin. Thomas died in 1931 and Sarah 1944. Their children were John~ (married Eleanor Key~ 1910)~ Charles~ Priscilla~ Violetta~ Annis and William. John and Eleanor's children were Lillian~ Harry~ John~ Amy~ Margarie and Edward. My grandfather was Ernest Field who lived at Dalton Terrace in Castleford. He married Jane Mannion and they emmigrated to Canada in 1927with their 5 children. His family owned a pub and Fish and Chip joint back in those days. There was a photo of my grandfather with a prize fish as he was quite a fisherman.I would love to find the pub if it still exists. Hello. I have searched family history to Pontefract~ West Riding~ Yorkshire. In 1637 Christopher TODD left England aboard a ship called "The Hector" for America. He landed in New Haven~ Connecticut and settled in upstate New York~ Herkimer County. Does anyone have any information about the Todd family or the Hector? Thank you very much.
