  My earliest memories are of my grandfather William Austen. (a direct decendant of Jane Austen the famous novelist. William married Dorothy Gaydon some time in the 1920/30 ies. They had 2 children John and Anthony. John being my late father. Tony now lives in Australia and so do many of his side of the Austen family. My grand father William was taught the clock making trade by the Dorothy's father, during WW11 he worked for Smiths industries along with my father John, making cockpit instruments for the aircraft industry in basingstoke Hampshire. In the 1963 he Moved to Lee on Solent in hampshire and started our family jewellery / watchmakers business which closed in 2004 because of my late fathers illness.
  I will talk to other family members soon about the Gaydon link's especially uncle tony in Austraila.
  please let me know if you want any more info, if i can get it.

Planing a visit to Atherington in 2010. My great grandparents emigrated to the states from this village in the 1880's. Their names were Joshua Beer and Emily Loosemore.

My great grandmother was also a Beer from Atherington and think Joshy Beer was one of her cousins although there were a lot of Beers in the area at the time. Do you know where they lived? My Father & Grand Parents moved to NSW Australia in 1912.**I will be visiting South Molton & Instow in July/August 2009. This**will be my second visit. My Great Grand Father - John Down was born in Instow & moved to South Molton. He lived at 1 Alexandra Terrace & had a shop in East Street.

My grandfather Theodore William Jury is registered as being born in South Molton in 1893. On his WW1 recruitment papers he says that he was born in East Buckland. I can't find any reference at all to him on the 1901 census~ even though it's an unusual name. **He married my grandmother in South Wales in 1920. **I'd love to trace his parents~ and any siblings. If anyone can shed any light on this I'd be so very grateful. Thanks~ Kate

My line is through my Mum: Patricia Watts, her father Ernest Watts b. 1895 Kentish Town, his father :William Watts b. 1855 Swimbridge Devon, his father: Nicholas Watts b.1826 Swimbridge Devon ---His father Richard is the farthest I have gone back on census b. 1791 Swimbridge Devon-Mason by trade. My line came to Marylebone,onto Kentish Town and then on still to Canning Town. William (gt grandfather) and Ernest (grandfather), were both cooks in The Merchant Navy. I really hope you read this message, it has taken me an age to trace this. I have been told by family that william was a cook on The Tea clippers, he and his son, my Granddad were East India men-worked for The East India Tea Company-I am so proud of my Watts family-Devon is close to my heart, now I know why! I have photos to share also.

Seeking information on families LIMEBEER & TOWELL at Chittlehampton. Ancestors William Limebeer b. 1769 and his wife Elizabeth Clark b.1768 and children. Daughter Elizabeth b. 1796 had child William Limebeer baptised at Chittlehampton 20 October 1818~ my ggrandfather. Elizabeth married James Towell of Ashreigny in December 1821 at Chittlehampton and they had other children. I also wish to learn when and how my ggrandfather William Limebeer left Devon~ likely in the early 1840's for Caledon Township Ontario.**

Earliest ancestors at Chittlehampton William Limebeer born 1768 and his wife Elizabeth Clark born 1769. **James Towell married Elizabeth Limebeer~ daughter of William and Elizabeth above December 26~ 1821. Their son William Limebeer~ born 20 Oct. 1818~ my ggrandfather came to Ontario Canada c 1840.
