Hi everyone; I'm researching my Gilbert family tree and it is clear that my line descends from a Gilbert family that lived consistently in and around the Clawton area from the mid-1600s onwards. Are there still any Gilberts living in Clawton who can trace their lineage back a few hundred years?
I'd love to hear from anyone with any information. Rgds Pete

Hello~ I am still looking for the father of John Veale who married Hannah Furze (Furse). They with their children Thomas~ Hannah~ Jane~ Ann~ Prudence~ all went to New Zealand in 1841~ their daughter Harriett and son John stayed behind in Devon. Their other son Oliver and wife Mary Ann Bailey Veale (Bayly) went to Ontario in around 1852 with children Albert~ Elizabeth~ Hannah and Marwood Bailey Veale . Thanks for your time.

  I am researching my family tree and it seems that one of my great great great uncles, Henry Gilbert (b 1812) of Clawton, also sailed to NZ in 1841, though not on the same ship. I wonder if Henry and his family knew the Veales or the Furzes; do you happen to know of any established Gilbert families that are still living in the Clawton area. Rgds Pete

This is an update. I am daugher of Marwood Veale~ granddaughter of Marwood Vernie Veale~ great granddaughter of Marwood Bailey Veale~ gg granddaughter of Oliver Veale~ ggg granddaughter of John and Hannah Veale who traveled to New Zealand in 1841. they left John~ Oliver and daughter Harriett in England. Harriet stayed in North Tamerton~ John went to New Zealand later~ Oliver moved to Ontario Canada in 1852. With them on Amelia Thompson was Thomas~ Ann~ Jane~ Hannah and Prudence. I am trying to find out who John Veales father was or looking for any other relatives. Thanks

Lawrence (Laurence) my great grandfather was born in Bennecott Lake~ Boyton. Is there anyone with information on the family. Does anyone know where the lake is now~ as I cannot see it on the map. One ancestor a James Lawrence was parish clerk on the 1841~1861 census.

Hi ~**Looking for any info on any Mogg's in the area. John Mogg & Eliza came from Pyworthy~ Devon~ England to Usborne~ Huron Co. Ontario abt 1842 (they had 10 children) . Son William (3rd child) born 1824~ married Rachel Rymal 1847. Wm died abt 1868 in Galt (they had 9 children) and then Rachel married Richard Gallagher - and had 2 or three more children. Most all of this family stayed in the Galt area for a least one more generation. My line [the Harry Whitman MOGG line] belongs to Wm and Rachel's second child John and then John's 6th child Harry.
