I'm tracing the history of the Hodges family. Edward James Hodges was a clergyman in Markshall in 1916 (the year his son John was killed, aged 19).
Can anyone tell me more about the family or point me in the right direction.
Reverend Hodges and his wife, Constance, had 2 children that I know about - Phillis and John. Were there any more?
The family moved to Bedford and I have evidence of them living there in the 1950s. How long were they in Markshall? They moved to the village from Lerwick in the Shetlands after the 1901 census but before the Great War began in 1914.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for descendants or information regarding the ADAMS family who lived in Chipping Hill~ Maldon Road~ Collins Lane~ PostHall End. Eliza Carder married a William Adams c 1845 and she lived at the above places 1854 to 1881. Their children were Mary Ann b. 1846 married Henry Bright~ William Adams b.1850~ Ellen Adams b. 1854 married William Thomas Woodley~ Samuel T.Adams b. 1854 married Emma Hawkes~ and Rachel Adams b 1856 married James Thompson.

My ancestors came from Totham and Goldhanger. My gt.gt.gt. grandfather was James Bateman who was a shoemaker and was born around 1805. His daughter Sarah married John Barnard from Little Totham. Anyone know anymore about these people. The cross with Sarah and John Barnard's names on is in St. Peters Church~ Goldhanger.

I am looking for information and records pertaining to ancestors of my husband's great grandfather John Drane~ born 1812~ occupation Ploughman from Aldham~ Colchester~ Essex. John Drane came to Australia on "The John" in 1832. Records and documents I have list his parents as John Drane and Jane (Jayne)Godfrey. I used to live at RED HOUSE in Messing in the late fifties.**Unfortunately~ I cannot remember any of the other boys names.**The House Parents at the time were~ Mr and Mrs Sterling.**They had a small son.**I slept in the top bedroom which according to stories~ was haunted by a 'red headed lady'**We were not aloud to sleep in the top bedroom at christmas and so we slept in the lower floor bedroom.** I do recall going on a cycle ride to a place called churchfields cottages~Steeple Bumpstead with another boy from Red House.**We could not return to Red House the same day due to the distance we went.**He had some american friends who worked on Wethersfield air base.**It was through him that I met the american friends~Tina and Paul Baumgarten I became friendly with.I went to Tiptree Secondary Modern school(as it was called then.**My main interest's at the time were table tennis~ art and football.I won 10 shillings for my painting of Tiptree Windmill.**I used to cycle over to visit my brother Fred who lived in Keepers Cottages~lodgings~ in Feering. He worked opposite the road at Hurst the horticultural farm.**I left Red House at the age of fifteen to work in Colchester.**

I am now 44. I lived in Greenfield Drive in 1977 till 1978. I can only remember so many names ... The Da Silvas- Jon~ Sandra~ Phil~ Ines. Andy McEwan~ Nigel Collings~ Philip Thomson~ Sue think was McEwan~ Colin Jenkins (gorgeous lad!!!) Ivan Dyer. I would really love it if anyone (with a better memory than me) Would drop me a wee email or pass this on. I am still living in Scotland. Been back here since I left the village. I have loads of happy memories of the village. Went to Discos in the village hall. My dads name is David Hale his wife is Valerie.
