My great grandfather John Williamson was born in Scorton in about 1844~ according to the 1871 Census. He died in Darlington in 1878. Can anyone in Scorton tell me where I might find any documentation as to his birth - where he may have been Christened perhaps? Which Register Office would I find his birth recorded? I have tried the GRO and applied for one that I thought might be his~ but unfortunately~ it was the wrong one. Many thanks for any help anyone can give.

I am trying to find out about my father in law~Vincent Northin~who~after being demobilised after the 2nd world war~in1945~presumably at the Catterick Garrison~ where he had done his training previously~was living in Brompton on Swale . He was also known as "Vic" and worked as a french polisher for the NAAFI at Catterick. He died in 1954 and is buried at Hipswell. Vincent belonged to an archery club in nearby Scorton and apparently won some cups there. Vincent lived in Bradford before doing his training at Catterick. Does anyone know anything about Vincent during the years between 1945 and 1950? Or~ even up to 1954? My husband would love to have any information about his father. Please contact me by email. My husband has a CONVICT ancestor who went from England to Tasmania (VDL)~ Australia aboard the ship "Hydery" in 1832.**Her Convict Indent states her native place to have been "COLBURN".****I can only locate 1 Colburn in England~ so am posting this in the hope that someone may be able to advise me on how to go about finding information on her.****NAME: Sarah BRAME (said to have been a married woman~ husband William was to come to Australia as a free man).****We know she had 2 daughters (Sarah & Rebecca) with her on the convict ship - they were put into The Queen's Orphanage until of the age to be "apprenticed" out.****What I have been unable to find is any details at all relating to Sarah BRAME (b. c1809) in Yorkshire and Colburn in particular.****I don't know her maiden name~ so a MARRIAGE between Sarah "?" and William BRAME would be a great find~ as would birth/bap. details on her 2 daughters Sarah & Rebecca (b. c 1823-1827).****Hope to hear from someone - maybe with access to Paraish records for Colburn for the period 1800-1830.****Barb in Australia
