My father~ Herbert McCabe~ was stationed in England in WWII~ and became friends with a young boy named Bryan Cleall who lived at 1 Church Lane~ Charminster~ Dorchester~ England. My father passed many years ago~ but I came across a letter he wrote in 1944 to my Mom here in Kansas that talked about his young friend. It would be great to talk to Mr. Cleall (or anyone else) about my dad -- he died when I was quite young~ so I am curious to visit with someone who knew him. Thank you!

Just curious about Whitcombe. Is there a site to view the village of Whitcombe (not aerial view)?

Dear Community~I am a mature student studying a BA Degree in Fine **Art at the Arts Institute Bournemouth and wonder if anyone could help with my **summer research. The premises i'm researching is:- Unit G~ Midway **Down Business Park~ Copyhold Lane~ Winterbourne Abbas~ Dorset. The current **occupant repairs plant machinery. The previous occupant~ who made dolls houses~ **hand crafted the kitchen. For example~ there are recesses and cupboards framed **by carved panelling and moulding typical of victorian style. The tiles on the **kitchen floor and balustrades~ leading to the now office~ is also indicative of **this era. The lounge is now converted into a workshop accommodating solid **wooden benches strewn with spanners and a miriad of tools. At the top of the **stair well there is a stained glass window ornately framed on this internal **wall. It is not just the fascination of these contrasts that **intrigue me. Historically what was this site? Was it originally part of Midway **Down Farm or an adjacent farm? In which case~ there may be links to manorial **land or tenants. In this connection I'm aware of the meaning of the **word ##'copyhold'~ but had hoped to uncover more relevant info at the Dorset **History Centre## so far lots on the 'Nine Stones'. It would also be interesting **to trace the doll's house maker~ as there may be a possibility he would be **willing to be interviewed. I would like to ask~ please~ does anyone **have any information regarding the above? If you are prepared to part **with it ##would you be kind enough to contact me.Work focuses on my **relationship with this curious building (made out of corrugated iron) **and ##emerges through object~ text and the environment~ although I intend to **experiment with digital imagery and sound recordings. Please be assured **that permission to use any historical photos or text in the **work will be sought.I'm in the process of setting up my own **practice~ but feel strongly that there is a place for Art in the **Community.Best wishes~
