I recently stopped over in Epwell to check out is any of my Ancestors could be found in the Churchyard. I was lucky enough to discover 2 David Hunt Born 1857 and died 1924, and John Hunt born c1860 died c1910 or 1913. The gravestone for the latter was very weathered. Both these were my great Grand Uncles. I unfortuneatly could not find any other gravestones for my family. However, I would be interested to hear if there are any family of either David or John still in Epwell. My Great Grandfather was the brother of David and John and was Clarke Hunt who married a Maria Harvey c 1873 . If anyone has any information I would be most grateful to hear.

Dear All
I have just come across and registered on your website.
I am primarily researching EDDEN in Epwell and Brailes, but have read the previous postings. I have GILKES in some of my records too.
I am trying to find my 3 x great grandfather James EDDEN born between 1794-1801.
My 2 x great grandfather was John EDDEN c. 05 12 1819 in Brailes.
My great grandfather was Josiah EDDEN who was christened 24 10 1847 in epwell and married Hannah HITCHMAN in 1852 in Hook Norton. They lived in Epwell all their lives.
I have a beautiful very tiny photograph of the family in Epwell taken round about 1920 and will willingly scan it and forward it on, if this web site permits photos. They lived at number 10, number 18 and number 22 Epwell, according to the census of 1841-1891 respectively.
I would love to share genealogy information with anyone who wants to.

John Nicholls (b 1800) was the innkeeper of the George and Dragon at Shutford from at least 1851 to 1871~ according to Census records. His grandson William Henry Hunt Nicholls (b 22.4.1857) was the son of Patience Nicholls (b. 1836). His father is unknown. The siblings of Patience were Thomas(b.1839)~ William(b.1842)~ John (b.1845)~ another Thomas (b. 1850) and Anna (b. 1851). William Henry Hunt Nicholls came to Australia in 1879~ and was my great-grandfather. I would love to get details of the family~ or of the pub!

My Grandmother~ Violet Robbins nee Horner~ ran the village shop. She was married in 1912 to George James Robbins who was drowned in Sowerlands Lake in July 1933. They had three sons: Albert George who died in 1979~ Leonard Charles who was killed in a motorbike accident near Banbury in 1938 and my father~ Douglas Eddy~ born in 1920. Going back through the family line of my Grandfather~ I can get back to one: Thomas Robbins~ c1781~ born in Gloucestershire but going back through the family line on my Grandmother's side~ I can go back through Horner~ Bartlett~ Russell~ Gardner (or Garner) Gilson (or Gilks) Austell~ (or Astell or Austin) and Corbett to one: Mary Corbett c.1673 all born around the Farnborough~ Avon Dassett~ Cropredy and Long Compton areas. If anyone has any photographs or documentation or could point me in the direction of anything to do with any of these families~ or indeed if anyone remembers my Grandmother or my father~ I would be very grateful. Dear Fenny Compton People~ Many years ago I used to live there. As you looked **down a road~ on the side there was a pub~ with a car park~ on the left side **there was a beautiful##House. Inside the house there was white ceilings~ and **black beams~ and lots of room. I went to the school up the top~ and really **loved the place. I then moved to CAD army camp with my parents. I went to school in fenny compton when I was around 10 years old. many memories and I remember running out of the door around the corner and running slap bang into the swing type scaffolding bar.
