Hi To All.. trying to trace G.G.G.Grandfather. who lived in Soyland.
JAMES LEAVER. born 1756, married mary, 1782 in Soyland.
They had nine children, four sons, five daughters,
Would like to trace further back,
I live in North Wales, and I am planning a visit to the area,
Would appreciate any help, in finding any church grave yards that
might hold my forebearers. position and post code would be helpfull

all info i have, states Soyland, as birth area of all this family.
all moved away. on marriage, I believe JAMES & MARY were buried
in or near the village,

This could also be the key to previous decendents.

Can anyone tell me if Hallgate is an area or street in Sowerby, West Yorkshire. I'm trying to trace the ancestors of Richard and Fanny Horsfall circa 1760 and Hallgate keeps appearing. I've tried the web without success.

• Yes Mike my gut instinct tells me that it is the place you are looking for, I also have it on my family tree, and it does come under Sowerby on the Census, I have other family members living in the same area but they are listed as 'Mithemroyd'/Mytholmroyd on their census's. Have a look at your records and see if there are any other streets/lanes etc then google them under 'Sowerby' and again under 'Mytholmroyd'. Nearly all the census's from 1841 through to 1900 list any adresses/areas within Cragg Vale/Mytholmroyd as Sowerby..which has been a bit of a headache to work out! Hope this helps, give me a shout if I can be of further help. Angie.

I am trying to find out the where abouts of my late uncle bryan.Uncle bryan was born in 1923 to george and marion samples my late grandparents.He sadly died in 1924 and was buried in warley cemertery.I have spent hours searching the cemetery but i have not found a trace of him.I would like help in locating his resting place so we his remaining family can give him a Headstone. marion lawson.

• Mr John Fawcett holds the graves register for Warley cemetery. I will send you his mobile number off-list if you like, as I'm not at all sure he would like it to be publicly available. He was very helpful to me two years ago when I was trying to find my own grandparents' grave, and as it turned out I would never have done so by visiting the graveyard alone, as they have no headstone.

I am hoping to confirm my 3X great grandparents as Thomas Fisher & Alice Jagger married at Elland in 1792.I believe their son John born 1811 married Mary Aspinal in 1836.(They had 13 children)**Thomas is described as labourer/husbandman and John as a hand loom weaver. I cannot connect with Fishers further back than this. Any info would be welcome

I am looking for any family members of William Hughes who married Rose Hannan Haggen about 1860. Rose Hannah Hughes died in 1889 and is buried at the Stoney Royd Cemetery~ Towngate. Northowram. They had a son William who moved to Australia about 1890 and died at Ouyen~ Victoria in 1913 aged 41.

I am trying to help a good friend make contact with a Miss Freda Sykes and/or a Miss Annette Sykes who might possibly be in the Elland area. Freda may have grown up around Boxhall(?). Freda gave birth to Annette during WW2. As of 1994~ neither had married. We think there may be a Miss Freda Sykes associated with the Bethesda Methodist Church~ who could possibly be the one. My great grandfather Joseph Crowther~ wife Hannah and family~ lived in Elland from sometime around 1877/8 until his death in 1885. My grandfather was Charley Crowther (who died in Dublin in 1954).****In 1870 Joseph (23) and Hannah (21) Crowther resided in 6 Booths Yard~ Halifax. His occupation is listed as plasterer. Their first child Louisa was born on August 2nd. By 1873 they had moved to 5 Launceston Street~ Halifax. Joseph was still a plasterer. Charley (my grandfather) was born on February 10th. They remained in Launceston Street through 1875 when Willie was born on January 31st and 1876 when Blanche was born on November 9th. In 1878 their address was South Lane~ Elland. Henry was born that year on July 19th. Joseph's occupation is listed as Slater. January 1881~ when Lilly Hiley was born~ they were in Upper Langdale Street~ Elland cum Greetland. Joseph **is now listed as Slater and Plasterer. Joseph was 34 and Hannah was 32. Joseph died at the age of 38 in 1885 and is buried in Blackley cemetery. Hannah later moved to 106 Huddersfield Road~ Elland~ from where Blanche Crowther sent her wedding invitation for tea . This is dated August 17th 1898 when she was 21. **Are there any relatives remaining in Elland and does anybody have a picture or photo of any houses mentioned above. Who were Joseph Crowther's parents?
