• Michael, I'm not sure how much help I can give you. Samuel Horn, my g-g-g-grandfather was born 4th July 1790 at Gunthwaite Hall, Upper Denby. His father, Joseph Horn worked at the hall. He came from Kirkheaton where in 1774 he married Mary Blackburn of Hartshead. Apart from Samuel Joseph and Mary (very biblical this) had two older daughters, Hannah and Mary. The only record I have of a William Horn is one born to a Joseph Horn of Gunthwaite in 1794 but no mother's name is given and so I cannot be absolutely sure this is my relative. In any case this William would be much earlier than yours. I also have a record of William Horn marrying Mary Thornton in Kirkheaton in 1820. Joseph Horn, son of Samuel, married Hannah Haigh in Kirkburton in 1832. This was my g-g-grandfather. They had several children, some of who died in infancy. One of these was a William born Cumberworth March 1821, died March 1823. I have contacted a cousin in America who I believe has a William Horn in her records but

I am trying to obtain information (anything) on or about the "The Aire & Calder Navigation Company - Ravensthorpe". My great great grandfather~ Harry Dewhirst~ is recorded as working there in the 1911 Census as a "Horse Merien". Earlier Census Show him as "Teamster" for the same company. In 1911 he lived in Vulcan Road Dewsbury.
