My ancestors~ Thomas and Johanna (Ann) Pewsey are listed in the 1841 Census in the Hawkhurst Parish. The "Place Column" says Knowls. His son David Pewsey is also listed in the Hawkhurst Parish and in the "Place Column" it says Conservative Row. I have a map that lists cottages and farms in this area~ but Knowls and Conservative Row are not there. Does anyone know if they still exist with a different name or where they were located. I am coming to England from the US in June and would like to take pictures of where my ancestors lived. If you have any suggestions~ please contact me.

I am looking for information on Thomas Pewsey born around 1766 in England He married Johanna Payne born around 1776 in England. They had 12 children## the first was Mary born in 1802 and Peter the last child was born in 1819. Thomas and Johanna are in the 1841 Hawkhurst census. I do not know how long Thomas and Johanna were in Hawkhurst before 1841 or if they were married there or elsewhere. Their son David was in the Hawkhurst in 1841~ Canada in 1845~ and later in Iowa in the USA. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I am looking for Henry Kemp born in Hawkhurst around 1800. he married a Mary from Hull~ Yorks and was a cordwainer. They moved to Ticehurst after their marriage and had 8 children before moving to Tonbridge. A name that re-occurs in the family is Smithson and i am trying to fid out the origin of this.

Searching for Gray/Grey ancestors from Hawkhurst my 4xg grandparents were John Grey & Sarah Gray (Relf)marr 6/4/1827 at Hawkhurst~I am sure his parents were Arthur & Margaret.**John's son William married Celia Eastwood 1858 then came to Australia~ I have some info on the Eastwoods & Relf's & Leaney's. Would like to find a link to Arthur Grey b 1714 Hawkhurst hung in 1748 as a smuggler.**Have had no luck finding Hawkhurst parish records.**

Hello My name is Sue and I am researching information on the family name Baldwin~ which was my maiden name. I have traced the connections going back to Samual Baldwin 1798 but need to fill in some gaps and hopefully contact some of my living relatives. My Grandad was William George Baldwin 1898 who married Ellen Elizabeth Button~ they lived in Hastings~ East Sussex for much of their lives untill the early 1970s~ When they moved upto Wiltshire where they both died in 1975. I am researching the lives and military service of 100 men from my town who **died during World War One.**One such man was born at Burwash Common~ he was William Isted the son of John **and Fanny Isted of Fryers Cottage~ Sussex.**He attended a public school in Sussex and also trained with the militia in **sussex before comming to Australia in 1912~ he was working on a farm in Scone **New South Wales~ Australia when he enlisted in the Australian Army within days **of war being declared.**Do you know of him?**Does he have his name recorded on a British War memorial?**Would you like the information I have found on him? **Your assistance would be appreciated as I intend to give the results of my **research to Schools~ Libraries and servicemens clubs so that these men will not **be forgotten.**Lest We Forget**Harry Willey
