PRESIDENT, Rosemary Bayles, welcomed members and visitors to the January meeting which had been postponed for a week because of the snow. It was agreed that the Christmas Dinner in December had been an excellent evening. A team will be entered in the County Quiz in March, with the first round taking place at Munsley Village Hall on March 17. An invitation had been received from Colwall WI to their Pancake Lunch on February 16 in Colwall Village Hall. Jane Delahaye gave members information and leaflets on coming health and fitness classes called Hale and Hearty and asked for volunteers to help.

The speaker for the evening was Robin Balmain who is HM Coroner for the Black Country who gave a most interesting and instructive talk on his work. He told members he looks into 3,600 cases a year, of which only 10% become inquests. To become a coroner you must be a qualified doctor or solicitor with five years experience and are appointed by the local authority. Contrary to public opinion a coroner does not perform post mortems he has pathologists to do it for him. He was thanked by Maureen Reeve.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, February 11 at 7.30 pm in Bosbury Parish Hall when the speaker will be Margaret Holmes on Ledbury’s Bag Lady. New members are always welcome, for further information please phone 640220
